Xia Yangyang was frustrated and annoyed.
She hadn’t wanted the credit, but at the same time, she had no desire to watch Guan Xuer reaping fruits that she had not sown.
In the afternoon, they had one last lesson. As fate had decided, Xia Yangyang and Guan Xuer once again met on a narrow path.
Guan Xuer didn’t move, neither did Xia Yangyang.
After everyone had left, Guan Xuer ambled over. “Do you loathe me with extra vengeance right now because I stole your hard work?”
Xia Yangyang snapped, “Guan Xuer, don’t you think that you’re despicable?”
Guan Xuer sneered coldly instead. “Despicable? Xia Yangyang, I’m different from you. I wasn’t born into a wealthy family so everything that I possess now is what I’ve worked hard for. So what if I resort to underhanded means? Integrity and honor solely exist for the rich. Being despicable and dishonorable is a means of survival for the poor. Rich people like you are born with everything but I can only resort to deceit to get what I want. I’m not being deceitful, it’s God who is unfair.”
Xia Yangyang snorted as she said, “I’ve never realized that you have such corrupt moral values.”
Guan Xuer sneered with contempt. “Xia Yangyang, don’t blame anyone. You have yourself to blame as everyone is jealous of your good fortune. Your family is rolling in money, you’re fair, smart and beautiful. You have a boyfriend who loves you. What about me? Your family dog leads a better life than me. But I’m not inferior to you except for my background. Why am I destined to be oppressed by you all the time?”
Xia Yangyang was confused. “When did I oppress you? I’ve always treated you as my best friend.”
“You’re just pitying me and being friends with me would reveal your kindness. You must be touched by yourself, aren’t you? Such a sophisticated and well-bred girl would become friends with a girl like me, who grew up in poverty and hardship. Are you proud of yourself for being a saint? Xia Yangyang, actually you despise me all along, am I right?”
Xia Yangyang sighed with resignation. “You assume that the whole world looks down on you because you feel inferior.”
She had no wish to talk to Guan Xuer any longer as her opinions were too warped.
She rose to leave but Guan Xuer squeezed her arm. “I will be the one to interview Gu Qichen. Don’t you dare ruin my future.”
Xia Yangyang hadn’t muttered a word when Guan Xuer trudged on. “Even if you tell the truth, no one would believe you. Everyone will simply think that you’re trying to steal credit. Xia Yangyang, you have way too much. Lu Haotian’s heart and a glorious and promising future. But everything belongs to me eventually.”
At the mention of Lu Haotian’s name, Xia Yangyang’s heart felt as though a needle had poked right through it.
Guan Xuer was well aware of Xia Yangyang’s wound, so she would stab it when the opportunity arose.
Xia Yangyang turned cold and distant. “In that case, I wish you success for the interview this afternoon.”
Guan Xuer snapped smugly, “Of course it would be. And then I will become the president of the club. Xia Yangyang, I should thank you instead.”
She turned on her heel and departed.
Xia Yangyang watched as Guan Xuer left. She took out her phone and hesitated before tapping on the screen to dial a number…
Xia Yangyang went to the dining hall for lunch before going for her revision.
She would always go to the library to do her revision.
At 3:00 p.m., she received a call.
She answered, “Yes, President?”
Xu Li sounded urgent and anxious. “Yangyang, come to the Flourishing Origin Corporation building now. President Gu only wants you to interview him. I had no idea you were the one who has gotten this interview. Let’s leave this aside. Come here now!”
