He touched it. Her hand.

Zhou Xufang’s eyelashes twitched. Staring blankly into the air between them, she let the phone slip through her fingers.

Thunk!

The phone smashed into the corner of the coffee table, instantly shattering its screen.

Both her expression and movements after that moment went as stiff as rock. Mind you, her speed and agility were dozens of times better than a regular human being’s, thus, her mistake of letting the phone slip was, to her, literally one of the greatest screw-ups she had ever experienced in her life.

“Zhou Xufang.”

Looking up, she was still visibly muddleheaded. “Hm?”

Jiang Zhi, who stood significantly taller than her right now, looked down as if he were looking at an ant on the floor.

“My phone is shattered again.”

His voice was tense and there were beads of sweat dotting his forehead. Gradually, a rosy color started swelling up in the area around his eyes, somehow making his gaze even more dazzling.

No wonder the people on set would always say that Jiang Zhi’s eyes could extract one’s soul from his or her body.

Even Zhou Xufang felt the effects they had described. Her reaction time seemed to be going slower by the moment, and even her facial expression was starting to grow dull.

She remembered saying “Looks like the screen has shattered again”, but she had forgotten that still holding on to the back of her hand was the warm, almost-stinging hot hand of a man.

The corner of Jiang Zhi’s mouth curved up slightly into a devious smile. “So, how will you compensate me?”

Evidently, he had been pleased by her dumbfounded reaction.

“But it was you who touched m-” Halfway through her sentence, Zhou Xufang lowered her head to find his palm still wrapped around the back of her hand.

One side was ice-cold while the other was warm, creating an extreme contrast in temperature.

As if by reflex, her hand jerked backward forcefully. A second later, her hand came into contact with Jiang Zhi’s wrist. Like she had done countless times before, she snapped down hard on his arm. Such a reaction came about due to the instinctual need to defend herself which had been programmed straight into her mind.

Shortly after, Ah Wan, whose ears were glued to the door of the room, heard the young master howl painfully. Without a moment of delay, he swung the door open. What he discovered was Jiang Zhi, hugging his arm while glaring at Zhou Xufang with tear-filled, but enchanting eyes.

Like a spoiled brat who had just had his candy stolen from him, he yelled out with a beet-red face. “I can forgive you for breaking my phone, but for hurting my arm, that I DO NOT forgive!”

“…”

Ah Wan experienced a sudden deja vu at the sight of a young man and his interaction with a girl-bully. The feeling was so strong that he retracted his foot which was about to step forward. He couldn’t help but stop and steal glances at this “girl-bully”.

The “girl-bully” furrowed her brows. Suddenly, she projected a look of anguish and regret. It seemed that she was pretty clueless at handling such issues. After deliberating for a while, she stretched her arm out. “Alright. Since it was me who hurt you, I’ll let you pinch my arm once too.”

Oh, Ah Wan finally understood what had happened. Once again, Miss Zhou had hurt the young master. Now, Ah Wan was certain that back when the young master was supposedly gay, it must’ve been the pain Miss Zhou inflicted on him that had turned him back into a straight man.

Miss Zhou was a “top” person through and through.

Zhou “top man” Xufang earnestly added, “I do not fear pain. You can try pinching harder.”

After all, she had caused him so much pain. What goes around should come around.

In Ah Wan’s humble opinion, Miss Zhou was a kuudere. For a kuudere to meet such a nefarious masochist in real life, he was excited to see how their chemistry would evolve. While his mind wasn’t particularly good at solving equations, he was still pretty knowledgeable about such matters, especially after watching so many love dramas from kimchi nation.

Jiang Zhi’s face, which had been initially twisted from the pain, slowly loosened up. The misty look in his eyes faded away, revealing a burning fire within. “You said it.” He stepped forward. “This time, don’t you dare run away.”

She did not run away, and he held her hand.

She stood there bravely without showing any signs that she was going to run away. Turns out, a regular human body was such a warm thing. It was completely different from her body, which was ice-cold like that of a monster’s.

Apparently, Jiang Zhi’s hands were so big that it could wrap around her entire face if he wanted to, transferring his warmth to her bit by bit.

At the very last minute, she chose to withdraw her arm. Without saying another word, she left the resting lounge.

“Boss.”

“Boss.”

Jiang Zhi was in a daze.

Words stopped coming out of Ah Wan’s mouth for a moment. Still, his curiosity was running wild. “You-” He covered his mouth before continuing. In a whisper, he asked the young master, “Have you fallen in love with Miss Zhou?”

No wonder the young master’s behavior seemed so out-of-place as of late. It was all because of love, huh?

Jiang Zhi stopped staring at the doorway. Still, the smoldering look which almost made his eyes glow lingered around. “How much did you see?”

Ah Wan replied truthfully. “I saw you touch her hand.”

He had used the word “touch” instead of “bump into”!

Having sold the world to achieve his goal, Jiang Zhi wasn’t particularly angry at Ah Wan. He continued staring blankly at his hand, which moments ago, was grasping Zhou Xufang’s.

Okay. It wasn’t a dream. He had truly descended into insanity now.

A while later.

“Get out. Shut the door while you’re at it.”

Ah Wan peeked back at the young master whose soul had exited his body. “Okay.”

Jiang Zhi sat there in silence for quite a while. Then, he picked up his now shattered phone and proceeded to dial a number. Perhaps he had unknowingly suffered some sort of stroke which might explain why he had saved the number of that dogsh*t psychologist into his phone.

“Master Jiang.”

On the other end of the line, Doctor Qiu’s voice was trembling in fear, as if he had been given the shock of his life.

Jiang Zhi leaned back against the sofa. Kicking up his legs, he rested them on the coffee table in front of him. He started speaking as if he was talking to himself in a lazy, sluggish tone. “I can’t stop thinking about her. I want to touch her.”

Doctor Qiu, who had received such an abrupt call from Jiang Zhi, was at a loss for words upon hearing what the latter had said.

“…”

‘So, his whole “this friend of mine” act was finally dropped?’

Jiang Zhi tapped the hands-free button on his phone and tossed it onto the sofa. He caressed the sofa with open palms as he stared at the light fixture hanging from the ceiling above. “I have just touched her hand.”

The pace at which he spoke was not fast nor was it slow. It sounded almost haunting to Doctor Qiu.

Jiang Zhi squinted, turning his eyes into the shape of a crescent. His gaze was a little blurry but it was also overflowing with excitement, like a hound dog waiting to pounce on its prey.

“I’m not satisfied. I want to touch her face.”

Doctor Qiu was so intimidated that his mouth was filled with the saliva he had forgotten to swallow.

“…”

“But where else would I have to touch after I’m done with touching her face?”

“…”

Doctor Qiu continued shaking in fear.

What was up with this devilish air that was emanating from his phone’s earpiece?

After the incredibly detailed descriptions, Jiang Zhi ended the series of lines he had semi-consciously uttered off the top of his mind with a, “Say, do you think I’m sick in the mind?”
