Livestreaming the Hunt - Chapter 39

Backstage, Zhao Zhongheng promptly inserted some thrilling background music.

The audience had become spirited and excited at the word ‘boner’ too.

“Big Butt, hurry up! We’re counting on you for tonight’s dinner!”

Wang Kui shouted before hurrying along with the dog.

Running ahead, Big Butt’s muscular limbs dashed through the foliage. It would stop to sniff around occasionally and think for a moment before continuing to run.

Its senses that reached up to 173.4% capacity meant that its tracking abilities were incredibly sharp.

A minute passed, and Wang Kui finally found some tracks on the ground.

It was a V-shaped footprint composed of two little fingers being pressed together. The tracks extended all the way up north in a row, accentuating a straight line.

The ground of highlands was very hard and dry, which meant footprints would remain for quite a long time. It was also the reason why Wang Kui had not spotted any shoeprints along the way.

However, such shallow tracks had to have been left recently!

“Wild hares usually move in a straight line when they leave their holes to find food. That is why there won’t be any mistake as long as we follow along this trail!”

“Experience is the key to finding the wild hare. They usually leave their holes from around dawn or dusk, and they would mostly move around water sources where plants bloom. The grass is fresher there, just as it can hide them and provide a sense of security.”

As they moved, Wang Kui hooked the 360-angle camera on his shoulder strap, slowly opening the side pocket of his backpack to take out his recurve bow.

“This time, I’ve brought along a recurve bow. It has a higher firing speed as compared to straight bows and logically speaking, although modern compound bows are highest in precision and power, the low temperatures in snowy mountains and hostile environment means compound bows can easily be broken with their numerous spare parts.”

“On the other hand, recurve bows are used both in competitions and hunts, with sight attachments for the ones used in competitions. However, competition bows have lower draw weight and deal less damage, while mine is a standard-issue American recurve bow. It has a draw weight of 45 pounds and effective range of 100 meters. It would be sufficient for any creature beneath mid to large-sized.”

Before he left, he had finished setting up his bow.

Most good bows were expensive because of its limbs.

Wang Kui’s bow was around one point five meters long with recurve limbs made from a combination of aircraft carbon fibers and hard maple wood. It was as light as it was tough, and the natural carbon fiber markings on top of it were enigmatic—matched with the pure-black carbon alloy handle as well as the yellow-green camo nylon bowstring, it was just a like dark ghost.

Since most of it was carbon, it felt light to the touch.

[So cool! Are all hunters archer specialists?]

[It feels like Old Kui pays extreme attention to details when it comes to hunting!]

[Details? Old Kui relies on experience!]

[Experience, details, physique—he has it all!]

“Grrr….”

That was when Big Butt suddenly stopped and started gnashing its teeth.

It was obvious that the dog had found something.

Wan Kui quickly dropped to a crouch and looked for a bush. Taking out the binoculars that were dangling in front of his chest, he carefully looked from left to right.

Just as expected, beneath a blooming shrub to the right, a gray-brown wild hare had its head lowered as it munched on fresh green grass.

“Found it. Northeast, around thirty meters from me…”

“I cannot get closer from this distance. There is less grass on highlands, and there is a natural advantage of perspective from uphill. Moreover, hares are known for their mischief… you’re up, Big Butt!”

Lowering his binoculars, Wang Kui waved his hand and had Big Butt move ahead to launch a man-dog combo.

Poking out its tongue, the dog lowered itself and slowly rounded its way toward the bushes where the wild hare was.

With meat pads beneath its legs, Big Butt could move much more quietly as compared to a human’s boot, even if said meat pads were not as thick as a feline’s.

Dogs were experts at concealing their scents, and hunting dogs even more so.

That was why it would not easily allow the hare to catch its scent.

Twenty meters.

Ten meters.

Wang Kui held his breath. Holding his bow with his left hand, he took out a pure-carbon arrow with his right hand and slowly nocked it over the chamois leather arrow rest.

At the same time, Zhao Zhongheng played a background theme from Heat Miser. As the faint piano tune and thick breaths combined, the scene became thrilling all at once.

With that, Wang Kui slowly pulled the bowstring, and the atmosphere was charged as he stretched the nylon rope to its maximum length!

Five meters!

The hare suddenly looked up as if noticing something.

“Woof—!”

Knowing that it had been spotted, Big Butt barked fearsomely, its limbs tightening as it lunged forward, kicking up a pile of dust as it sprinted!

Whoosh!

The sudden assault left the hare shuddering all over its body. Promptly folding its ears, its rear legs kicked the ground forcefully before it fled in panic.

Amidst the bushes, the hare and Big Butt’s shadows flickered repetitively.

Unbeknownst to the hare, however, it was being forced northward, where Wang Kui was!

Thirty meters!

Twenty meters!

Within the camera lens, Wang Kui held his bow diagonally, his three fingers tightening as he aimed his arrow point in the direction where the hare was fleeing.

He adjusted.

And adjusted again.

At that very moment, the music abruptly stopped!

Everything around him seemed to freeze.

Exhale.

Wang Kui loosened his finger to release the arrow!

Swish—!

The pure carbon arrow shot out like a black bolt up at the hare!

The hare’s translucent eyes reflected that black shadow just then, which grew ever larger like a reaper!

“Squeak—!”

There was a shrill cry, and the wild hare disappeared into a pile of bushes in the blink of an eye.

“Big Butt!”

Wang Kui roared just then, instantly leaping out of his bush and pulling the fired arrow out of the dirt, which was coated in blood just as it expected. “The arrow has hurt it considerably, but don’t pursue! When cornered, the more you chase an animal, the more its survival instincts will kick in!”

“As I’ve mentioned before, many hunters would lose their sense of direction and get injured because they became obsessed with the pursuit, and would instead be attacked by their target. Wait for 30 seconds, and the damage to its innards should make it stop. Once their adrenaline fades, their pain, their fatigue from losing blood, and the terror of death will crash down like three lofty mountains, breaking it!”

He then clutched his smartwatch and started a countdown.

The viewers were all left beside themselves in awe at the scene.

Be it physically or mentally, Wang Kui’s grasp over animals was utterly overwhelming!

“It’s time!”

He rubbed the black blood on the arrow on top of his yellow-green trousers and nocked it again.

Big Butt came to him, sniffing and licking it, its single-red eye immediately flashing with excitement.

“Arf-woof!”

It barked once.

Then, quickly following the smell of blood wafting in the air, it dashed westward.

Hunting bow in hand, Wang Kui kept up from behind. High-altitude sickness was making his breathing turn coarse, which was recorded on the 360-degree camera. From behind the screen, his viewers could actually feel the ferocity within his bones!

This was a fearsome beast in the middle of a hunt!

A true tiger coming down from its mountain!

They were getting closer!

After all, there was an increasing number of blood splatters!

Now, utterly excited, Big Butt opened its long snout and barked repetitively, and it sounded just like a bell of death being rung resoundingly amidst the conifer forest!

Finally!

The wild hare, unable to restrain itself, leaped out from behind a maple tree and tried to escape again.

Regrettably, however, its heavily injured rib kept its reflexes incredibly slow!

Swish!

Another lethal black flash shot out, pinning the hare where it was like a nailgun with a soft ‘thud’.

“Squeak! Squeak!”

The wild hare made a last-ditch struggle once again, the agony causing its body to spasm and tremble endlessly.

“Survival of the fittest. Only the strong survive!”

Wang Kui walked up to the hare and pulled out the Zero Tolerance hunting knife tied to his thigh.

Whoosh.

The knife shot out, an icy glint flashing past, and the hare soon stopped moving.

“Rest in peace!”
