It’s Not Too Late To Love You - Chapter 57

Chi Wan could have been shot and killed had she not been careful under those circumstances.

Where did she get that courage from?

She only laughed and asked in return, “What else did you think that was?”

She refused to tell Wen Mo that it was an instinctive reaction. She subconsciously did not want him to be harmed because of her and was worried that he might misunderstand her.

Wen Mo could not describe what he felt at that very moment, but it was… Not very pleasant.

It was a sense of defeat and disappointment when his expectation was not met.

Expectation…

Wen Mo pursed his lips and lifted his dark gaze.

“You…”

“You…”

Chi Wan spoke at the same time.

They met each other’s gaze. She was a bit embarrassed. “You go first.”

“Ladies first.”

Chi Wan found the atmosphere to be somewhat awkward and wanted to crack a joke. “You’re my boyfriend. Shouldn’t it be normal for me to save you? Anyway, I got to experience what it’s like to be the hero who rescues the damsel in distress!”

Wen Mo paused momentarily, then let out a small laugh. Under Chi Wan’s confused stare, he spoke calmly.

“Chi Wan.” He called out her name in a serious tone.

She did not listen when he spoke, for she had been captivated by his smile…

Rare things were often precious.

When the man who seldom laughed or hardly expressed his joy, began to laugh wholeheartedly, a special feeling warmed Chi Wan’s heart. It was as if she was Columbus who had discovered a whole New World.

His lips were curved upwards, and his expression was neither distant, manipulative nor cunning. His laughter had spread to those decent, unassuming eyes. The inscrutability in his gaze had been replaced with genuine warmth.

That laughter was magical.

Chi Wan had been attracted by his beauty and laughed along too. Her eyebrows formed two arches, and her eyes radiated joy and affection. None of her prior feigned coldness was present, and she behaved like a simple, regular woman.

Wen Mo observed her sweet appearance and it seemed to have struck a chord in him.

With a firm gaze, he poured his heart out truthfully. “Be my real woman.”

“…”

The delight on Chi Wan’s face disappeared, and a look of shock took its place.

Did she mishear or misunderstood things?

Be his… Real woman?!

What sort of joke was that?!

Wen Mo frowned slightly. For the first time in his life, he had this kind of thought. It was so powerful that he said it out loud without first thinking it through.

His current emotions were complicated, but there was no regret.

He was unsure of his actual feelings towards Chi Wan. He simply thought that nothing could go wrong with him being genuinely attracted to her.

They could perhaps give each other a chance.

For the past twenty-five years, this woman was the only one he did not hate but actually liked for some strange reason.

Wen Mo shifted his lips and said in his usual steady tone, “If you don’t mind, we can give it a try.”

Chi Wan stared at him closely. She wanted to detect a trace of a giveaway on his placid face.

Unfortunately, she could not find anything out of the ordinary!

Was he confessing his feelings for her?

How did he manage to keep his cool?

Assuming she loved him to death, she would not have said yes when he wore an expression like that, let alone having no interest in him!

Chi Wan was flabbergasted and replied, “I object!”

“Reason?” It seemed like Wen Mo had expected her answer.

“You like me?” She was not narcissistic. On the contrary, she had no idea why Wen Mo would say that.

There were only two factors for one to become Wen Mo’s woman, woman to a man who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
