It’s Not Too Late To Love You - Chapter 43

Wen Mo patted Chi Wan’s back as he comforted her. His voice was as soothing as the rich tones emitted by a cello. It had the magical power of calming someone down.

Chi Wan lifted her head slowly and regarded his still gaze.

Wen Mo was cool and steady. It was as if his presence meant that whatever grave problems that befell her would no longer be problems.

“Mm.”

She murmured and leaned against him. Her obedience reminded Wen Mo of a cat he had had as a child.

He never pushed her away. No matter where he went, he brought her along, catching the attention of the crowd.

Wen Mo did not bother about the stares from the crowd and held the petite figure close to him. He was thinking about what had happened to her.

Chi Wan was not a weak woman.

She was just a sensitive hedgehog who was used to defending herself with her spikes.

If somebody had bullied her, she would not let it slide.

She would rather wreck her future than give up her dignity and principles. What on earth happened that caused her to shake uncontrollably?

Chi Wan knew it was inappropriate for her to stick around with Wen Mo like this. Nevertheless, she still had not recovered from her shock.

The loud thud she heard when the man was thrown off the floor was like a sound from Hell which penetrated her mind. She could not shake that sound away.

At the end of the day, she was still a woman.

A cooling, pleasant aroma emanated from Wen Mo’s body. It was hard to describe its smell. It neither smelt like body shampoo nor cologne. The scent was faint and similar to freshly-cut grass.

In his arms, Chi Wan began to calm down and did not hug Wen Mo tightly anymore. She released her grip, but her arm was still around his.

Doing so gave her a sense of security.

A calm Chi Wan felt confused. She did not expect to get an unfamiliar yet reliable feeling from a man she was not close to.

“Better now?” Wen Mo handed her a glass of fruit juice.

She accepted the drink and replied, “Much better.”

Wen Mo had finished speaking with the man from the Land Planning Bureau. The crowd noticed this and immediately held up their wine glasses in a toast to build up the network.

Wen Mo accepted their toasts. He took a small sip from each glass. His actions clearly reflected his refined upbringing and charisma.

Occasionally, he would come across some folks who would pester him and claim to be from wealthy families. Every time this occurred, Wen Mo would look at them steadily with a calm gaze. However, for some remarkable reason, his domineering aura would result in an embarrassed smile from the other parties and they would eventually stop bugging him.

The feeling that he was looking at you, yet ignoring you, was weird.

It was as if those people did not exist in Wen Mo’s eyes.

He was not arrogant. He simply… did not regard them as people.

“Hey, Second Young Master Wen.”

A familiar voice was heard. Chi Wan furrowed her brows and tightened her grip around Wen Mo’s arm again.

“Hi, Goddess!”

Rong Xi noticed Chi Wan from afar and rushed towards her. “You’re here too!”

Chi Wan was still on good terms with him, thus she forced a smile.

“Goddess, about last time, I’ve punched that scumbag for you! Don’t take it to heart, please!”

Rong Xi attempted to appease her as he spoke, behaving like a canine that begged for a touch and a hug. “I promise I’ll always protect you! I won’t let anyone bully you!”

Gu Xicheng walked over unsteadily and sneered, “I’m just worried some idiots don’t know that they have been manipulated, and help the manipulators instead.”

Rong Xi was furious. “Is it too difficult for you to think before you speak?!”

“As long as you give me a number I’m satisfied with, I’ll shut up at once.”

Gu Xicheng threw his hands in the air.
