It’s Not Too Late To Love You - Chapter 42

Chi Wan took a deep breath and maintained the steadiness in her voice before she continued, “I attended the banquet this evening as Wen Mo’s girlfriend. If something happens to me under unexplained circumstances, he’ll definitely do something. It’ll be disadvantageous to you, won’t it?”

She analyzed every detail factually. First, she affirmed her current status. Next, she mentioned Wen Mo to make Mu Yunshen feel concerned.

Mu Yunshen regarded her in a fascinated manner. His deep voice sounded captivating in the night.

“Chi Wan, you’re intelligent. I like intelligent people.”

Interesting. She was not fearless but bold. She was well aware of the situation that she was in and knew how to use every tool she had at her disposal to wriggle herself free.

Mu Yunshen stood up slowly, approached Chi Wan, and lifted her perfectly-shaped chin.

She withheld the urge to evade and gazed back at him.

“Remember what you just said, or else I can… You understand.”

He uttered the last two words in a tender, silky manner, but the underlying meaning sent a chill down Chi Wan’s spine.

She simply acknowledged with an “Mm” instead of saying anything else.

Mu Yunshen smiled. “Chi Wan, I’m more interested in you than ever. Remember, you belong to Dong Yu. You belong to me.”

He withdrew his hand and shoved both his hands into the pockets of his pants. With a flamboyant turn, the corners of his lips curved into an ambiguous smile and his lowered eyelashes veiled the coldness in his gaze.

At last, Chi Wan relaxed when Mu Yunshen left. She leaned against the wall weakly.

Luckily, she played her cards correctly.

One wrong move could have cost her her life.

Had she chose to cry and beg him, she would have ended up as a corpse.

It was her first near-death experience. Mu Yunshen did not do anything, but she had a feeling that if she said something wrong, he would have killed her there and then!

After contemplating for quite a while, Chi Wan finally regained a bit of strength in her numb body. She took a few deep breaths and left the balcony.

She strode back into the hall and felt a sudden calmness when she saw Wen Mo among the crowd.

Without thinking much, she walked over to him, grabbed his arm, and used the warmth from his body to warm herself.

Wen Mo was in a discussion with the Chief of the Land Planning Bureau. A familiar figure neared him without warning and attached herself to his arm. She hugged him so tightly as if she was about to integrate herself into his body.

At first, Wen Mo was stunned. He nodded to the Chief, temporarily halted the discussion, and looked at her.

“What’s wrong?”

He could sense from her shaking body that she was in distress. He tapped on her hands and realized how cold they were.

“Chi Wan?” He frowned.

She shook her head as she did not know how to tell him. She only managed to lift her pale face, open her mouth, and whisper in a pleading manner.

“Wen Mo, let me stay beside you, alright?”

The Chief smiled. “You have such a great relationship with your girlfriend, Second Young Master!”

Wen Mo ignored him as he was enchanted by Chi Wan’s glossy eyes.

Her features were hauntingly beautiful and mesmerizing, especially her large pair of eyes.

She was usually resistant, aloof, and often kept to herself.

However, now there was a twinkle in her gaze. Like a small animal, she begged for his care and warmth with her doe-like eyes.

Wen Mo’s heart ached when he saw her in this state. He realized that she was shaking even more violently and embraced her at once.

For the first time, Chi Wan offered herself without a struggle.

“It’s alright, I’m here.”
