I’m A Wasteland Giant - Chapter 23

Walking out of the school gates, the corpses they expected to see all over the place weren’t there.

At a glance, there wasn’t a single living person or carcass on this street.

On the ground, there were only shreds of clothes and some shoes that had been chewed to fine pieces.

And underneath those debris were large patches of red blood stains.

Chu Zixuan approached the debris and surveyed it.

Ma Li was puzzled. He pointed to the tattered clothes and broken shoes on the ground and asked: “These are…?”

Chu Zixuan glanced at him. “Do you remove the shell before eating shrimp?”

“Of course!!”

At that moment, everyone reacted.

“Blaargh!”

An Ya was the first to dry-heave, followed by Ma Li who vomited.

Du Gang didn’t vomit, but felt somewhat uncomfortable.

Humans had fallen from the position of Earth’s hegemon to become food that insects needed to strip off their clothes to consume. This was unbearable.

The few of them vomited, and after a full 10 minutes or so, they reluctantly accepted the reality.

“Let’s go. Don’t waste time!”

Upon seeing that the others were gradually feeling better, Du Gang urged.

“Why didn’t you two have any reaction at all?”

An Ya looked at Du Gang and Chu Zixuan incredulously. The four of them had thrown up badly, while the other two talked to each other as if they weren’t disturbed at all.

“Actually, it’s nothing. The reason you guys are throwing up is because you haven’t accepted reality and can’t recognize the fact that humans are no longer the overlords. See, after you’ve thrown up, aren’t you accepting it already?”

Chu Zixuan struck the ground with his foot a few times and continued. “Seems like these insects are thrifty. They ate so cleanly and didn’t even spare the bones…”

“Blaargh!”

The four of them vomited again.

This time, Du Gang also knitted his brows.

Chu Zixuan explained: “You guys need to adapt because you will definitely see more of this on the road ahead. If you can’t handle this, you’re going to have a very tough time!”

As there were people present that Du Gang cared about, Chu Zixuan didn’t speak too harshly.

After the others vomited out the last of their gastric juices, they bent over and gasped for air.

Seeing them in such a vulnerable state, Du Gang merely shook his head and didn’t reprimand Chu Zixuan.

They are too weak. Even if they are given supernatural powers, I’m afraid they won’t be too useful either.

At this thought, Du Gang felt that Chu Zixuan would be a good teammate. At least he was very calm, realistic, and reliable.

Along the way, in addition to shredded clothing on the streets, there were also flattened vehicles as if they had been crushed by some heavy object.

Upon taking a closer look, they saw that the windshield had long been broken and the vehicle seats had been smashed to pieces.

“Looks like someone didn’t listen to what was said on TV—stay home quietly and don’t drive out in the middle of the night…”

“They probably think the car is safe!”

Chu Zixuan casually looked at the car logo and laughed: “If it is an armored vehicle, maybe it could stop the insects. But a civilian car like this that has relatively poor quality is nothing more than a box of food…”

“TSL? I’ve never heard of this car brand…”

“That isn’t important. Doomsday is here, so the brand doesn’t matter. They still ended up devoured as crispy fried chicken, anyway…”

The group continued to advance and stopped in their tracks as they passed a small supermarket on the street.

Through the transparent glass on the door, they coincidentally saw the clear view of an insect’s leg exposed outside the shelf.

“Du Gang, let’s go!”

Several of them subconsciously took a few steps back and hid behind Du Gang.

Not only was Chu Zixuan the only one who didn’t flinch, but his eyes also glinted with excitement.

“I’ll go in and take a look!”

Du Gang ignored the pleas of the crowd, gripped the sharp knife, and headed inside the supermarket.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

Soon after, inside came the racket of the struggling insect knocking down shelves and letting out harsh shrieks.

And after just a dozen seconds, Du Gang’s voice was heard.

“Chu Zixuan, come in for a moment!”

When Chu Zixuan heard him, he stifled the joy inside him and walked in with an expressionless face.

The others weren’t mindful as they thought the two of them were just studying the structure of the insect.

Based on the fact that the two of them had no reactions while they vomited at the sight of shredded clothes and blood, they knew that those two weren’t ordinary people. If this happened during peaceful times, those two would be proper freaks!

But in this apocalyptic environment, it was undeniable that such freaks were more likely to survive.

Chu Zixuan went up to the fallen shelves, subconsciously turned his back to the outside, and came to the side of the insect.

He saw Du Gang standing on top of the insect in his original size. But judging from his tattered shirt, he knew that Du Gang had transformed a few seconds ago.

However, his pants wasn’t ripped apart because he wore a pair that belonged to an obese student in the dormitory, making it more convenient for his transformation.

Upon meeting Chu Zixuan, Du Gang handed over the crystal in his hand and asked: “How are you going to test it?”

With an apprehensive mood, Chu Zixuan took the crystal and placed it on his chest.

The best result he anticipated was for his body to absorb the crystal directly. But it didn’t happen and he was slightly disappointed.

Despite that, he soon took out a thermos from the backpack, poured a cap of water, and placed the crystal into the water to wash it.

“Apart from directly absorbing the crystal into my body, I guess I can just swallow it…”

Du Gang puckered his brow. He didn’t expect Chu Zixuan to be so courageous to swallow it.

He didn’t understand. Chu Zixuan apparently looked very sensible, but why was he willing to take such a risk?

Chu Zixuan observed Du Gang’s expression and instantly knew what he was thinking. He spoke with a smile: “There is a fine line between genius and madness. As the saying ‘seek success in detail and make fortune in risk’ goes, I’d rather kill myself if I don’t live well in this apocalypse. There are only two possibilities after swallowing the crystal: I will either awaken supernatural power and live well, or die!”

He had long been aware of death. Unlike others who lived in the dormitory due to their homes being far away from school, he did so because he didn’t have a home or relatives to rely on…

Chu Zixuan opened his mouth and swallowed the entirety of the red crystal.

The moment the crystal entered his throat, he felt as if the crystal had turned into some kind of substance that dissipated in his body.

Immediately after, it was as though a lock in his body had been opened. His heart thumped.

Something inexplicable slowly took shape in his mind.

“How is it? Have you awakened your supernatural power?”

Du Gang looked at Chu Zixuan’s odd appearance and asked.

Chu Zixuan slowly opened his eyes and the bottle cap that he was holding in his hand floated up all of a sudden.
