“Sorry. I’m really not interested in hearing about Zhai Shiyu.” Cheng Zhiyan curtly dismissed Xia Feng yet again.

“Ah…but, I’m telling you…” Just as Xia Feng was about to continue nagging Cheng Zhiyan, he suddenly heard the teacher call out his name from the podium at the front of the classroom, “Xia Feng, don’t think that I haven’t seen you secretly whispering to Cheng Zhiyan. Does that mean you’ve already mastered everything I taught you today? Come on up here. Solve the next problem on the blackboard for us.”

“No, please…” Xia Feng had a pitiful expression on his face as he glanced up at the strict math teacher who was standing at the podium. Then, with pleading eyes, he turned toward Cheng Zhiyan.

“Sorry,” Cheng Zhiyan muttered in a low voice. “I wasn’t paying attention either.”

Xia Feng felt as if he’d been struck by lightning. He stood up in defeat and dragged himself toward the blackboard.

Suddenly, the bell sounded to signal that class had ended. Xia Feng immediately appeared revived. He grabbed Cheng Zhiyan by the arm and insisted that Cheng Zhiyan accompany him to the bathroom right away.

Cheng Zhiyan appeared at a loss for words. He asked, “When did you become such a little girl, asking people to accompany you to the bathroom?”

“Oh, come on, Class Representative Cheng, will you please just go with me?” Xia Feng gazed at Cheng Zhiyan with a pitiful expression as he said, “Didn’t you just see how, as a result of giving you background info on Zhai Shiyu, I was punished by the math teacher? Come with me now and pay me back for my sacrifice.”

Cheng Zhiyan stared at him for a while, and then he silently stood up and followed him out of the classroom.

After exiting the classroom, the bathroom was on the right, yet Xia Feng led Cheng Zhiyan toward the left.

“I thought we were going to the bathroom?” Cheng Zhiyan grabbed Xia Feng by the collar and tried to drag him back in the direction of the bathroom. “You’re going in the opposite direction.”

“Ah yo, I’m not going in the opposite direction. Come, come, come, Cheng Zhiyan. I’m going to point out Zhai Shiyu for you.” Xia Feng grabbed Cheng Zhiyan and dragged him all the way to the classroom of Class Two. Dramatically, he pointed to a girl sitting by the window in the second row. “Can’t you see, it’s that girl sitting by the window with the ponytail. She’s wearing that bright blue dress. Isn’t she super-pretty?”

Cheng Zhiyan looked in the direction that Xia Feng’s finger was pointing. There indeed was an attractive, fresh-faced girl who was sitting by the window. Her head was lowered as she was busy scribbling down words in her notebook. A few strands of stray hair covered her delicate ears and her long neck.

“Well, what do you think? Isn’t she attractive?” Xia Feng asked Cheng Zhiyan in a smug way, as if that girl was his own prized possession.

“She’s not bad.” Cheng Zhiyan glanced at her indifferently, then turned around and started to walk back toward his classroom.

“Huh, how come you’re leaving?” Xia Feng quickly followed Cheng Zhiyan, and he asked with a dumbfounded look on his face, “How can you merely say she’s not bad, when Zhai Shiyu is so pretty. If she liked me, I’d make her my girlfriend in a heartbeat.”

Cheng Zhiyan stopped dead in his tracks. Then he turned around and gazed at Xia Feng with a thoughtful expression as he asked, “Do you know what girlfriends are for?”

“Not much besides holding hands and kissing on the lips.” Xia Feng shrugged his shoulders.
