“Me…?” Cheng Zhiyan looked down in confusion at the milk bottle that was being shoved into his hands. He felt extremely awkward.

“Ah, please, could you just feed her. All you have to do is put the nipple of the bottle in her mouth.” Zhou Ling stood next to him in his bedroom and gave him instructions.

“…” Cheng Zhiyan stared down at Bai Xiaotu, whose eyes were tightly shut and whose breathing remained deep and steady. He looked up at Zhou Ling, confused, and said, “But she’s still sleeping.”

“That’s all right. This little rascal has a special ability to sleep and drink her milk at the same time. Just place the nipple into her mouth, and she’ll start sucking right away.”

Cheng Zhiyan now felt as if he had been thoroughly defeated.

He looked down at the milk bottle in his hand, then looked toward Xiaotu, who was sucking her thumb. He finally realized that he had no choice, so he decided to follow Zhou Ling’s instructions. He shook the milk bottle a little and tentatively placed it into Xiaotu’s mouth.

Xiaotu immediately took her thumb out of her mouth, readjusted herself a bit, and then greedily latched onto the nipple of the bottle and started gulping down the milk.

Cheng Zhiyan watched as the milk in the bottle bubbled up from her sucking, and, in what seemed to be a flash, the full bottle of milk had been entirely drained by Xiaotu.

After she’d finished drinking the milk, Xiaotu’s head rolled back contentedly on his shoulder again, and she passed out once again, even deeper than before. Her other hand that had been firmly grasping Cheng Zhiyan’s neck for so long finally loosened its grip.

Cheng Zhiyan let out a long sigh of relief.

“Hee, hee, hee, not bad.” Cheng Zhiyan’s mother had stood in the doorway watching her son feed Xiaotu a bottle of milk. She said, laughing, “Back in the day when you were a baby, your father wouldn’t even pick up a milk bottle if it had fallen on the ground. In this regard, you’re much more useful than your old man was.”

“…” Cheng Zhiyan was completely at a loss for words. He placed the milk bottle back on the nightstand, and, staring down at Xiaotu, he muttered, “She’s finally really asleep.”

“That’s great. I’ll carry her back home now.” Zhou Ling extended her hands over Xiaotu’s body. Then she scooped her up with both hands.

“You’re leaving? You sure you don’t want to leave Xiaotu here to sleep with Yan Yan?” Zhou Yue asked with a mischievous expression as she watched Xiaotu’s mother swiftly scoop up Xiaotu into her arms.

“This little rascal isn’t an easy sleeper. She moves a lot and kicks. If she sleeps with Yan Yan, I reckon she’ll drive him crazy.” Xiaotu’s mother smiled and, after saying good night to them both, she carried Xiaotu home.

After Zhou Yue saw Zhou Ling and Xiaotu out the door, she turned around and stared at her son intently.

Her intense stare made Cheng Zhiyan feel ill at ease, and he couldn’t help but ask, “Mom, what are you staring at me for?”

“Hee, hee, hee…” Zhou Yue chuckled and said, in a teasing tone, “Son, if you marry in the future, no doubt you’ll be an excellent father.”

“…” Upon hearing this, Cheng Zhiyan appeared a little surprised and an uncomfortable expression appeared on his handsome face.

“All right then…now it’s late. It’s time for you to go to bed as well. I reckon that tomorrow your little girlfriend will come over again to seek you out to play.” Upon seeing how her teasing had made Cheng Zhiyan feel awkward, Zhou Yue couldn’t help herself, and she continued to tease him some more.

“Okay. Got it.” Cheng Zhiyan started to head back toward his bedroom, but he’d only taken a few steps when he suddenly turned around to face his mother and said, “Before I am finished with my considerations, could you please stop calling her my little girlfriend?”
