I Became The Mother Of The Male Lead’s Children - Chapter 4

Chapter 4

May couldn’t stay still as though she was a child who stole something. Because Daisy was reading the result of her secret investigation in the bedroom.

“May.”

With her low voice that sounded like a warning, May hurriedly straightened her posture.

She knew well the meaning of those words beneath that deep smile.

“Leave.”

“Yes.”

After the anxious May left, Daisy leaned comfortably on the soft sofa. Her thin and tiny body was buried between the springy sofa.

‘I need to change the sofa.’

Daisy read the document with small but important thoughts.

The documents that were crammed with letters were given to her when she entered this family.

‘It’s time to read it.’

There was information about the butler, housekeeper, knight commander, the maids, the servants, and the knights.

Daisy gave a short thought after reading all the documents.

“….They’re doing a terrible job.”

Sadly, this wasn’t surprising.

“I didn’t expect much from the estate. Still, I thought the mansion could be different.”

Carlyx was letting his servants roam around without a fence and didn’t even try to control the mansion.

‘Does he think it’ll be useless even if he tries?’

Carlyx’s achievements were spectacular, but his fame and honor were the worst because he was an illegitimate child with blood from another empire.

Growing up with mistreatment, he was still smart and excellent, but he didn’t have much faith in people.

He went through a lot of things since he was young, so he didn’t think about changing anything.

In retrospect, Carlyx probably relieved his shortcomings by throwing himself on a battlefield and gaining victories.

If he hadn’t gone that wild, he wouldn’t have made it this far.

Hmm. Daisy dabbed her lips with her quill pen. Then when she was checking information about Carlyx…

“What are you doing here?”

She didn’t know when he came in, but he was already standing in front of her. Daisy, who raised her head, said calmly.

“Ah, I’m glad you’re here. Do you have time now?”

“I can make time for you. What do you need? We can discuss it.”

“Please sit down.”

Daisy gestured at the sofa in front of her.

Whether he was being generous because he was on break, Carlyx sat down obediently.

“I refuse to answer personal questions.”

“I don’t like to ask personal questions either. I’m not curious, so don’t worry.”

She already knew about his past, anyway.

Daisy turned over the page of documents that contained information about Carlyx back to the first page.

“I don’t know what that document is about, but I don’t want to sit still like this.”

Carylx had a cautious gaze as he rested his elbow on his crossed legs.

He looked at Daisy, who was focused on her documents, and added.

“If you want to waste my time, I’d better leave.”

“I’m not wasting your time. Please sit down. I called you to discuss my duty as the Marquis’s wife.”

Daisy responded to his sharp gaze calmly. Her red lips drew a fascinating line.

“How did you pick the housekeeper?”

At her question, Carlyx leaned back, locked his fingers together, and turned his head to the other side.

People might think he was arrogant, but he was always cold and expressionless on a daily basis, so it was just how he usually was.

There was a short silence and then he answered.

“If we’re getting divorced in two years, that kind of duty is unnecessary. After you leave, everything will go back to normal. It’s just a waste of energy, so don’t concern yourself about it.”

Carlyx’s face turned cold as he narrowed his eyes.

“How can I not care? Like I said before, my dream is to get married.”

“What does that have to do with this?”

“It certainly does. If I don’t finish my duty as the Marquis’s wife perfectly, my reputation will be ruined. Do you think any men will come up to me that way?”

“I thought you believe in fated love.”

“Fate also revolves around one’s status. Snow White married the prince, but it was because she was originally a princess, and Cinderella married the prince because of magic.”

Of course, it was only an excuse. An excuse to talk about the next topic.

“Therefore, I have a condition. From now on, I will manage and change the family. The state of this family after our divorce will be the result of my management.”

“Yes, just do as you please. I have no intention of taking control.”

“If the divorce results are good, give me a reward. Of course, I won’t accept the divorce settlement if nothing changes by then.”

Reward.

Under Carlyx jurisdiction, there was an estate that didn’t develop. Even if they used all of their entire property.

The marquisate shouldn’t get any worse here.

Therefore, she had to lead a dramatic growth, and make sure to get the money from the estate.

She needed to establish her status as the Marquis’s wife in the social world and became someone who could restrain Count Duster’s power.

‘You have to become someone who can stand alone.’

Perhaps, it was such an unexpected statement, Carlyx’s eyes slowly found Daisy again.

He looked at her face as if he was trying to read her intention.

Daisy once again spoke about ‘love’ to explain her motive.

“Opportunity is something you have to create, and that opportunity is closely affiliated with one’s reputation. If my works are able to bring me fame, honor, and even wealth, then I will be able to find my fateful love after divorce.”

“That’s a pretty elaborate idea.”

Albeit a little surprised, Carlyx’s eyes and words did not contain any criticism.

Then, Carlyx added with a dull voice.

“But it’s going to be difficult. No, it won’t be possible.”

Carlyx thought.

Daisy didn’t know how harsh it was for an ‘illegitimate child with blood from another empire’ and ‘a wife of an illegitimate child’.

Nothing would change even if she struggled.

But it was better to learn it by herself than let her know.

Misfortunes come true only when you experience them rather than hear them.

‘Then she’ll give up on her own.’

Carlyx nodded slowly.

“I understand, let’s do that. Even if nothing changes, we don’t need to forfeit the settlement money. Even if the results are the same as they are now, get what you deserve.”

“Then I won’t decline.”

Daisy answered Carlyx without hesitation.

Carlyx tilted his head as if he were dumbfounded, but that was it.

“Everything in this family is under your control from now on. I never work on this in the first place, so please discuss it further with Tyler.”

“So how did you pick your housekeeper?”

“I hired people who were sent by Duke Jean.”

“Ah, I see.”

Daisy wrote down the information she just heard next to the housekeeper’s name on the document. The scribbling sound rang in the room.

Carlyx, who thought the conversation was over, got up from his seat.

“I’ll arrange the other things later.”

“Yes, thank you.”

Carlyx glanced at Daisy before turning his back. She wrote something diligently, but the content of the document was not familiar.

Daisy, who felt his gaze, asked calmly.

“What are you looking at?”

“Have you done your investigation?”

That documents on the table. Information about Marquis Jean’s people was written there.

“Yes.”

Daisy, who put down her quill pen, looked up at Carlyx. His gaze was so scary that her fingertips trembled.

However, unlike her erratic heart, her answer was calm.

“You did it too, right? That’s why I thought I should do my research first before we meet.”

She bent her eyes slightly and smiled.

“If you have another question, I’ll give you an answer now.”

“….How did you know?”

Carlyx, who asked her with a businesslike voice, no longer had a fierce gaze like before. She had skilfully soothed Carlyx’s suspicious feeling that had risen sharply.

Thank god.

The more she looked into his eyes, the more she felt like he was stripping her down.

‘Because I know your personality from the novel.’

She couldn’t just say that. Daisy, who unconsciously clenched her skirt, tried not to erase her smile.

Be calm. Be strong. You can do it.

“First, please sit down. My head became stiff from looking up.”

“I don’t think that much will make you stiff.”

“I don’t think you know much about my body, but I’m very vulnerable.”

“You must be very weak then.”

His eyes, which had been fixed on her, moved slowly.

Only then could she breathe better.

Carlyx went back to where he had just sat.

Daisy spoke casually to hide her trembling body.

“Both of them. I’m both weak and vulnerable.”

“You’re weak, but you have the stamina to keep tackling me.”

“I have some of them left, that’s why I’m doing this.”

Carlyx and Daisy thought the same thing at the same time.

‘I won’t lose a word.’

Daisy unyieldingly added another word into her mind.

Let’s see who wins.

‘I don’t think he ever fought with the heroine like this.’

Of course, the original Daisy wouldn’t have had such a scuffle with him either.

Originally, she fell in love with him at first glance when they attended a party. She even had a ridiculous imagination and false hope.

She thought she was the only one who could change him.

So if the real Daisy was here, her eyes would be sparkling.

She would say, ‘My dear marquis has a great face and great voice!’.

‘It’s awful just thinking about it.’

It was not her, but the real Daisy, who dreamed of a fateful love.

There was suspicion inside Carlyx’s frosty purple eyes.

The “So, answer me.”
