As they came up to a Rolls Royce, the driver respectfully opened the door for Tang Qianmiao.
“Eldest Young Miss, please.”
The girl smiled, and said with an air of nonchalance, “Come out here if you want to say something. You have five minutes.”
The man in the car did not move. The vein on his temple throbbed. It was obvious that he was furious.
Throwing him a glance, Tang Qianmiao then started to walk off.
At this point, the car door swung open, and Tang Yi came out, looking sullen. There was no gentleness nor fatherly affection in his pair of serious-looking eyes, only cold judgment.
After a moment, he looked away and said with sarcasm, “You don’t even know how to greet your father when you see him. Where are the manners your mother taught you?”
While he kept his voice low, however, it was cold and emotionless.
Tang Qianmiao’s smile was pretty but casual and with a touch of iciness. “Father? You?”
Her casualness and nonchalance provoked him further. He took a moment to suppress his rising anger, then said, “Who is that juvenile man you’re hanging out with? He doesn’t even look half decent. Are you taking the money your mother left behind to keep that man?!”
To this, Tang Qianmiao calmly replied, “Yes, he’s my kept man.”
Tang Yi turned purple in his face and said, “You! Don’t you have any shame!”
The middle-aged man’s voice was full of vigor and carried with it obvious mockery and anger. Tang Qianmiao looked back at him as though she had all the time in the world. Although a slight smile hung on her face, the frostiness in her expression was as cold as it could get.
“And what does it have to do with you?”
Tang Yi glared at her sharply and snapped, “Everyone out there knows that I’m your father! You’re causing me embarrassment by doing such shameless deeds!”
“Oh? Causing you embarrassment? Ask your own conscienceーhow have you contributed to my upbringing all these years? My father…” She laughed coldly and continued, “Are you worthy?”
Tang Yi choked. He was silent for a moment. Suddenly, he gave a derisive snort. “I knew you’d grow up to be a good-for-nothing!”
“Haven’t you heard the saying? It’s the father’s fault for not teaching his son properly. Thanks to you, I’m what I am today.”
Tang Yi’s lips trembled in his fury, yet he was at a loss for words.
As Tang Qianmiao looked at him, she said in a lazy drawl, “Let’s not waste our time talking about our so-called father and daughter relationship. There’s nothing like that between us. Don’t come looking for me again if there’s nothing urgent.”
Just as she was about to leave, Tang Yi asked, “Where did you get all that money for bidding? I know exactly how much money your mother left for you, and it’s definitely not that much! Where are you getting your money from!”
The girl chuckled, “So we’re finally coming to the point of this conversation, are we? Sure, I can tell you. I earned that money myself.”
Her dismissive response made Tang Yi so furious that he gave an icy sneer. “You earned it? An uneducated, wild child like you, earned 300 million? What sort of rubbish are you speaking with such disrespect for your elders! What a waste of the efforts that your mother spent on your upbringing all those years. How could you ever do justice to your dead mother!”
Tang Qianmiao looked at the man wilfully and said with much deliberation, “I wasn’t the one who took on another wife the day after she was buried. Of course I can do her justice.”
Tang Yi turned red in the ears, rapidly losing his patience. Forget it! He would not spend one more second on the girl before him.
Reaching into his pocket, he drew out a check, then said as he wrote on it, “Since your mother has sent you to the Feng family, then you’d better behave yourself and stay put. From now on, you are not to mention to people that you are part of the Tang family, much less, my daughter. The fewer people who know about our relationship, the better, since you don’t treat me as your father!
“This money is enough for you to spend for the rest of your life. Take it, and I’ll consider that I’ve carried out my duty to you.”
Tang Qianmiao lowered her gaze so that it rested on the check. She did not notice the amount that was written on it, but slowly reached out for it, and then… tore it up.
Flinging the shreds into the air casually, they fluttered and fell before the furious stare of the man.
Nonchalance was written all over her face. “Who are you talking down to? Do I need your money to survive? Save it for your old age.”
Having said that, she turned and walked away without looking back. However, she did not retrace her steps but headed towards the direction of the elevators.
After going around the corner, she halted and looked up with interest in her eyes, as her gaze fell on Feng Xian’s perfectly handsome face.
“Was it fun eavesdropping?”
