Upon hearing these words, the assistant quickly explained, “Miss Tang, we weren’t eavesdropping. We just happened to be coming out of the elevator. Besides, our Young Master has no interest in other people’s business. Please don’t misunderstand.”
Tang Qianmiao merely raised an eyebrow and nodded. “Alright, we’ll just take it as that then.”
“What do you mean just take it as that. Miss Tang, I’m stating a fact. We weren’t eavesdropping.” The assistant began to sound anxious.
“That’s enough.” The man’s icy voice interrupted his assistant as he calmly moved his gaze away from Tang Qianmiao’s face. He started to walk away.
Tang Qianmiao spoke up, “Why did you want the perfume so much?”
The abrupt question caused the man to halt for a moment before he continued walking away. He did not answer her question.
With a tsk, Tang Qianmiao only said, “Some people never change.”
The man did not stop, and most likely did not hear her mumblings. Right after this, she turned and retraced her steps. At this point, she ran into Black Chicken, who was now carrying a bagful of snacks. He walked towards her slowly, obviously he had been back for some time.
As he cast his gaze in the direction that Feng Xian and his assistant were heading, he sniggered. “Boss, if only he had known that you have extremely sharp hearing, he wouldn’t have lied.”
His boss was born with superior physical abilities, and her hearing was tens of times sharper than a normal person’s. She could hear the slightest movements with great clarity.
Tang Qianmiao walked on steadily and chided him, “You need to watch your mouth and not say things that you shouldn’t be saying.”
“I know, Boss. I’m only saying it because there’s no one else around.”
A sharp glare was leveled at him and he fell silent again.
It was true that she had many unusual abilities, and her six senses were far sharper than the average person’s. The same went for her learning ability. Basically, she could learn in a couple of days what might take others many years to learn. Her mother had told her it was the side effect of the drug.
She didn’t want others to know these things, hence apart from the handful of people closest to her, she had never told anyone.
Because of her superior hearing ability, she would normally wear a noise cancellation headset. This way, the world she lived in wouldn’t be so noisy.
But today, she wasn’t wearing it.
So she could hear everything around her with frightening clarity, including what Tang Yi had told the mother-and-daughter pair as they were entering the auction venue.
She sneered frostily with a mocking expression as she recalled those words.
In all of Tang Qianmiao’s life, there was but one riddleーand that was Tang Yi.
This man was her biological father but in all her 19 years of living, he had never fulfilled his duty as one.
At the tender age of 8, she had started suspecting whether she really was his daughter. It would have been reasonable for him to be this cold towards her if he weren’t her real father. Full of hope, she had gone to have this verified. Eventually, she was disappointed.
Her cell phone rang, breaking her train of thought.
She picked up the call.
A respectful voice from the other end greeted her. “How do you do? I’m calling from the auction house. Letting you know that Mr. Bai’s creation has been sold for 800 million. We will do as instructed by him and have all the money donated to charity.”
“Alright, I’ll let him know. Thank you for the trouble.”
Sensing that she was about to hang up, the person quickly continued, “Er… The buyer has a… significant background. It’s Mr. Feng from the top familyーthe Feng family. He is hoping to meet with Mr. Bai.”
A sense of realization came over Tang Qianmiao. So this was it.
He wished to meetーfor a mere 800 million.
“We’re not interested.”
“Please hear me out. Mr. Feng said that he would like to make a deal with Mr. Bai. The amount is up to Mr. Bai, but this is a rare opportunity. Please would you convey this to Mr. Bai?”
“We’re not interested.”
With that, Tang Qianmiao hung up without another word.
Seeing that she had settled her business, Black Chicken finally spoke. “Boss, your father seems to have something against the way I dress. Just so that I can be a good match for you, shall I dye my hair black again?”
A sneer curled on her lips as Tang Qianmiao remarked, “Green suits you better.”
Black Chicken turned gloomy.
“Boss, how could you!”

Meanwhile, Feng Xian was leaning back in the passenger seat of the car with his eyes shut.
The assistant reported after taking a phone call, “Boss, we have news from the auction house. They said… Bai Mi is not agreeable to a meeting.”
Feng Xian half opened his eyes when he heard this. A hint of interest grew on his normally cold face.
At least, the assistant interpreted this look as “interest”.
After all, his boss had almost never been rejected. Hence this rare situation seemed to have provoked his innate desire to win.
“Ask him for the contact details of Bai Mi’s assistant.”
“Got it.”
After a short while, Feng Xian received a string of digits. However, he did not make any calls. Instead, he stared at the string of digits and fell into contemplation, an unreadable expression on his face.
