Looking at Jiang Beihan’s expression, he instantly understood what he had to do, retrieving his phone and handing it over to Song Wenxin.

Watching them, Song Wenxin was stunned by the tacit understanding between them–that they were able to communicate with just their expressions and their eyes.

Accepting the phone from him, Song Wenxin did not call home directly. Instead, she called a close friend of hers–someone whom she hung out with a lot–and asked her to call and inform her family that she would be staying the night with her.

Finishing her call, Song Wenxin returned the phone to the stone-faced dude called Shangguan and could not resist checking him out.

The stone-faced dude was physically well-built and had average looks, but his entire persona exuded a brutish temperament.

And, going by the eye contact and wordless exchange that she had witnessed between him and Jiang Beihan earlier, Song Wenxin was even more convinced about the speculation that she had made at the Civil Affairs Bureau about their relationship!

“Miss Song, is there anything else I could help you with?” asked the man whom Jiang Beihan called Shangguan. He had noticed Song Wenxin eyeing him with curiosity and was getting suspicious.

Immediately shaking her head, Song Wenxin replied, “Oh, no!” Noting the man’s not-too-friendly attitude toward her, Song Wenxin could not help feeling sorry for him. Could it be because he was jealous of the fact that she had married Jiang Beihan that day?

Song Wenxin could not resist letting out a laugh at that very thought.

It appeared that she had inadvertently uncovered an Earth-shattering secret!

Having heard her laugh, Jiang Beihan looked up from his paperwork and glanced sideways at her.

Damn it! He wanted to destroy all those newspapers and magazines that had written those trashy articles insinuating that he was gay!

In no time, the dining table was covered with many types of delectable food.

However, Song Wenxin did not like any of the dishes that had been placed before her.

Every dish was meticulously cooked, using the best ingredients, and was elaborately presented, very similar to what one would find served in the major hotels.

However, she still preferred the home-cooked food made by her mother.

Also, since there were only Jiang Beihan and herself in the big dining room, she found the atmosphere way too quiet.

It was deafeningly quiet in the dining room, and since Jiang Beihan used his cutlery very elegantly, there was only silence in the room, except for the intermittent sounds of him eating and drinking his red wine.

Although Song Wenxin did not the food particularly appetizing, she was hungry from the day’s hectic activities, and so she forced herself to eat some of the food.

“Have you had enough to eat?” Jiang Beihan asked as he laid down his chopsticks and lowered his gaze to look across the table at Song Wenxin, who had stopped eating a while ago.

Song Wenxin nodded.

“Let’s go to the bedroom,” he said in a commanding tone, rising from his chair.

Song Wenxin nodded, expecting him to lead her to her own room. However, she did not expect to return to the room that she had been in the night before.

“Are we sleeping in the same room?” she asked him, surprised.

“We are husband and wife,” he said mildly, suddenly walking over and standing close, right in front of her.

As he spoke, a faint whiff of sweet-smelling alcohol drifted from between his lips toward her nostrils, causing her heart to miss a beat involuntarily, probably due to the intoxicating aroma.

Caught unawares, Song Wenxin was at a loss for words…

Suddenly, he turned and left, leaving Song Wenxin alone in the bedroom.

Out of curiosity, she looked around the bedroom.

From the minimalist décor, she could tell that every meticulously planned detail was expensive and luxurious.

She noted the exquisite vase, high-quality paintings, gold-plated antique wall lamps, and handmade rugs; In her eyes, all these represented wads and wads of cold, hard cash.

As she was engrossed in inspecting Jiang Beihan’s bedroom, the silence was rudely interrupted by two knocks on the door.

Song Wenxin jumped out of her skin at the sudden intrusion of noise.
