“That man never laid a finger on you!” She could tell from his voice that he was absolutely sure.

A little surprised, Song Wenxin wondered how he could have known.

“I wouldn’t be so sure if it were anyone else, but we are talking about Jiang Beihan here!” said Shen Jiayu, laughing.

Puzzled, Song Wenxin wondered what Shen Jiayu could be alluding to in his statement. Why was he so confident that the man had not lain a finger on her?

“Eight o’clock tonight. I’ll be waiting! Just be there, and I will make sure that Song Jiamu will be released, safe and sound! However, if you don’t turn up, then your entire family–not just Song Jiamu–will be destroyed!” Song Wenxin was so furious, that she would have dearly loved to hang up on him in that instant, but she forced herself to bear with it.

“Jerk!” she yelled into the phone.

“Wenxin, don’t worry. I will treat you with ‘special care’ tonight…” taunted Shen Jiayu as he laughed jeeringly.

Enraged, Song Wenxin hung up on him.

Angry as she was, her curiosity eventually got the better of her, so she left her bedroom, picked up the key to the letterbox, and went outside to open it.

There was indeed a letter addressed to her. Picking up the letter, she went back to her room and shut the door before tearing open the envelope.

True enough, there was a piece of paper inside, on which was written an address, as well as a room access card.

She clutched the access card tightly. Although she was sorely tempted to throw the two items away, she did not do so.

Her brother had been arrested. In one fell swoop, her family had suddenly been thrown into a state of confusion.

However, just the thought of that jerk Shen Jiayu’s face made her blood boil!

Angrily, she threw the access card and paper on the floor and trampled them repeatedly!

Finally, exhausted and feeling completely helpless, she sat slumped on the floor and stared miserably at the card.

Surely, this could not be her only option to save her brother and family from total ruin!

Ever since she was a little girl, her brother had always doted on her, giving her the best food and toys, and she had always turned to him for help whenever she was bullied!

She simply could not bear to stand by and see him get arrested, end up having his future ruined, and maybe even be at risk of losing his life.

And the fact that she was unable to do anything to save him simply tore her heart to pieces.

With their wealth and connections, the Shens wielded a lot of power in A City, and, without their approval, the charges against the Songs would not go away, even though the Songs were innocent and had done nothing wrong.

Then again, such was the reality in today’s society, where one would just have to grit their teeth and carry on.

Having come to that conclusion, she slipped the card into her pocket and left the house quickly.

Song Wenxin had gone to the police station to visit her brother, Song Jiamu, but had had her request flatly denied. Obviously, they had been instructed to make things difficult for her!

Although she was anxious about her brother, there was nothing Song Wenxin could do.

Just as she was loitering outside the police station, thinking through her next steps, someone appeared in front of her.

It was Shen Jiayu.

“Wenxin, I just knew that you would be here!” Shen Jiayu exclaimed gleefully, his face still a little swollen from being beaten up by Song Jiamu. It was that irritating smug smile on his face that made Song Wenxin want to punch him and make his face swell up again!

“Let me in. I want to see my brother!” Song Wenxin demanded, glaring at him.

Suddenly, Shen Jiayu sneered and walked slowly toward her.

On reflex, Song Wenxin stepped backward.

“Just come to me tonight and I will make sure that you get to see Song Jiamu tomorrow morning!”

“You shameless jerk!” Song Wenxin spluttered, shaking angrily.

Shen Jiayu simply shrugged and said, “See you tonight!” after which he turned and walked away.
