Chapter 36: The Wolf King’s Message
“Alright, I’ll handle things with Lan Jiu. Now, please tell me what you know about the Beast Tide and why you’re asking me to raise your child.”
“There are various magical beasts in the Beast Tide. Some of them were created by the system.”
“However, there will be times where the number and power of the magical beasts are insufficient. Therefore, people will be sent by the system to recruit beasts when a Beast Tide is about to happen.”
“Ordinary beasts will attack ordinary Lords while powerful beasts will attack powerful Lords.”
“Moreover, the most powerful beasts will appear on the third day. We will be going to the battlefield tomorrow. I’m going to die. That’s why, please take good care of my child.”
As the wolf spoke, tears began to fill his eyes.
“How are you so sure that you’ll die?”
“I’m sent to the northernmost land. There is a Lord who can wield a western sword to perfection. He doesn’t have many soldiers, but he can kill all the beasts from the Beast Tide by himself. No beasts could land an attack on him. I don’t have the confidence to defeat such a person. There’s no way I would come back alive.”
“Even if I don’t die, I’ll be captured. Basically, I won’t be able to return for a few years. I’m afraid that my child will die once I leave.”
Xu Hang got upset after hearing the wolf’s words.
“I heard that there are three people in the south who are also very powerful. One of them fired a dozen boulders and crushed us.”
“The most ridiculous part is that he killed us with his farmers instead of soldiers. Fortunately, I was not sent there. Otherwise, I would have died a horrible death. I would rather be killed by the western sword wielder!”
The king of the wolves looked at Xu Hang and his subordinates’ attire.
“That person can’t be you, right?”
“It is me.”
Xu Hang cupped his fists.
“Hahahaha.”
The king of the wolves laughed awkwardly.
“Anyway, all I know is that I’m going to the north tomorrow. A person sent by the system will be waiting for me there.”
Xu Hang then remembered the mysterious figure that the Elven Queen had mentioned.
‘Could he be a messenger for the system?’
“Thank you for your information. I have faith that you’ll come back alive!”
“Maybe I could go with you tomorrow. The Beast Tide has killed countless of my compatriots. I want to see who’s behind this horrendous war!”
Xu Hang said furiously. He clenched his fists tightly and his eyes were filled with anger.
The king of the wolves shook its head.
“What do you think would happen if I were to fight this person?”
It pointed to the strongest farmer, Hill.
“You will definitely die in four hits,” Xu Hang answered truthfully.
“Hahaha, you really don’t sugar coat your words. Anyway, listen carefully to what I have to say next.”
“About 100 miles northwest, there was a lightning lion. The lion was probably a tier 4 magical beast and it was way stronger than me. Before this, he felt that the war was unreasonable and confronted the person sent by the system.”
“However, with just one punch, the lion was killed. The person also did not seem to use much of his strength. Do you think you can deal with someone like that?”
This information shocked Xu Hang.
As of now, there was no way for him to deal with such an opponent.
Nonetheless, he refused to return empty-handed. If he did, then more people would be killed in tomorrow’s Beast Tide.
The king of the wolves sighed helplessly.
“The messenger seems to strictly follow the system’s orders. This world upheld the motto, ‘survival of the fittest. We’re residents while you’re outsiders, but we can all obtain something from this world.”
“For example, because of my excellent performance in the Beast Tide, I was upgraded from a tier 1 magical beast to tier 3.”
“There are limited resources in this world. Everyone will fight for it.”
“Young man, no matter what, you have to prioritize yourself. If you died, who would collect my corpse? Hahaha.”
The king of the wolves was even cracking a joke.
Xu Hang thought about it for some time.
“What you said makes sense. However, I’ve made up my mind. If I give up now, then I’ll regret it for the rest of my life. So, please let me try to make things right.”
“Alright. I’m just trying to ensure the survival of my child’s caretaker. As long as you stay alive, you can do whatever you want. I don’t really care.”
Xu Hang bowed to the king of the wolves.
“Thank you for your understanding. I promise you, I won’t go back on my word!”
The king of the wolves raised its paw and waved at Xu Hang.
“Would you hold my child?”
Xu Hang’s heart was filled with joy. He had long wanted to embrace the cute little pup.
A piece of paper then appeared. There were some twisted lines of words written on it.
“This is a blood contract. If you agree to the terms, we will become allies.”
After saying that, the king of the wolves picked up the little pup with its mouth. It used its sharp claws to slightly cut one of the little pup’s foot
A drop of blood dripped onto the contract and the little pup began to wail loudly.
“Hurry up and drip your blood on it too!”
Urged the king of the wolves.
Xu Hang hesitated for a moment but he chose to believe in the king of the wolves. He bit his finger and squeezed out a drop of blood, which dripped on the contract.
A light emitted from the contract and it floated into the air. Then, it burned away.
Once that was done, Xu Hang felt an inexplicable connection between him and the little pup.
“Try and hold my child now.”
As soon as Xu Hang carried the little pup, it stopped crying.
Xu Hang hugged and stroked its back for a while.
The little pup fell asleep peacefully.
“Looks like it’s fond of you,” said the king of the wolves with a smile.
“You guys can stay here for tonight. I’ll wake you up in the morning. Then, we’ll set off together.”
“Okay!”
