Lu Man lowered her eyes and she was happy. How adorable he was indeed!
“Why don’t you get up?” Pei Zichen frowned and looked at her.
“I’m being punished. How can I get up when I’ve promised to kneel here?” It was a punishment. If she got up now, she would surely be labeled as a dishonest person.
“Why are you so stupid? We’re the only ones here. If both of us keep quiet about it, who will know about this?” Pei Zichen became impatient.
“Honesty is the best policy.” If she did not want the punishment, she would have said so in the beginning. Now that she had promised to do so, she would surely fulfill it.
“You’re so stubborn!” Pei Zichen was speechless. But, he admired her more. He worried less now when he found out that she was quite stupid and stubborn. She did not seem like a villain and he could indeed have faith in her.
“I’m not stubborn. I’m just nice. I have a noble characteristic,” Lu Man said smugly.
“You’re just naive. How could you say that? You’re just gullible!” Pei Zichen rolled his eyes at her.
Lu Man’s lips twitched.
“Aren’t you afraid that you cannot walk anymore?”
“No, I’m not afraid. I have a husband and a son to take care of me.”
“Where are your husband and son?”
“My husband is your father and surely you’re my son!” Lu Man looked at him just like something had gone into his head.
“You think too much! We won’t take care of you!” Pei Zichen was filled with contempt toward her.
“It’s your fault that I cannot walk from now on. Shouldn’t you be responsible for that? Do you want to kick me out and ask me to be a beggar instead?”
“Of course not!”
“Then, be responsible for what you’ve done!”
Pei Zichen was speechless.
“You just wait here. I’ll go and meet my great-grandmother. I’ll tell her that I’m the one who has framed you. I’ll ask her not to punish you anymore!” He wanted to leave her when he was done talking.
Lu Man grabbed him immediately. “Your great-grandmother is not feeling well. Don’t go!”
“But, what about your legs?”
“Xiao Chen, I’m quite touched to see that you’re concerned about me!” Lu Man’s face was filled with satisfaction. Xiao Chen was a good kid! He was even worried about his enemy!
“Who’s concerned about you? You’re so naive. If you cannot walk, you’ll stay with us forever!” Pei Zichen sneered. He did not want her to think too much. He was never worried about her!
Lu Man’s lips twitched. “You’re indeed a naughty boy!”
“I’m not! You’re just too naive and you don’t even want to admit that!” Pei Zichen sneered.
“You’re the one who is naive here! You don’t even know that I’m messing with you. Do you really think that I cannot move my legs from now on just because I’m kneeling here?” Lu Man sounded just like him now.
“I know that you’re lying to me! Now, you’re admitting it after I tricked you!” Pei Zichen replied smugly. He did not really want to go and meet his great-grandmother now.
Lu Man was speechless.
“Just stay here. I’m going to sleep now.” Although kneeling there would not break his legs, it was not a comfortable feeling either. He had made the right decision to stand up when she said that. He was indeed quite smart! He saw a blanket by the side. Suddenly, he felt rather sleepy. Then, he went to sleep on the blanket.
Lu Man did not know how to respond to that.
“Why don’t you go back to bed if you want to sleep?” What kind of hobby was that to be sleeping there in the ancestral hall?
“I’m staying here to protect you given that we’re comrades now. Otherwise, my ancestors might appear and scare the hell out of you!” Pei Zichen used what she said to retort her now.
Lu Man was again speechless.
Pei Zichen lay down comfortably on the blanket. Then, he exclaimed, “It’s nice to be sleeping here! It’s a different kind of feeling!”
Lu Man’s lips twitched. “What kind of feeling is that?”
“Wonderful!”
“How wonderful is that?”
“I’m lying here comfortably while you’re kneeling there and all you feel is soreness. It is indeed a wonderful feeling!” Pei Zichen was really enjoying himself.
Lu Man was speechless.
It was just like what they said, like father, like son. He was indeed Pei Xiuyuan’s son. They shared the same wickedness!
“Go ahead and sleep! I heard that ghosts can easily enter your dreams when you’re asleep. You might be able to meet your old ancestors when you’re asleep.” How dare he say such a thing!
“Fine! That’s excellent! I always want to see what ghosts look like! If I get to meet them in my dreams, I’ll thank you properly when I wake up!” Pei Zichen was not afraid of the ghosts at all.
Lu Man was speechless.
“Are you really only six years old?” What kind of six-years-old kid behaved like that?
“Do you want to take a look at my identification card and birth certificate?”
Lu Man was again speechless.
“You’re just stupid and could not beat me in an argument. Don’t doubt my age. Do you think that one is smart just because he is old?” Pei Zichen sighed like an old man.
Lu Man did not know what to say to that.
“Wow! It’s so nice to be able to lie here! It’s so comfortable!”
Lu Man remained silent.
“Have you seen the little cabbage before?” Pei Zichen suddenly thought of something when he almost fell asleep. He lost his desire to sleep. Then, he sat up.
“I heard its song before.” Pei Zichen was the one who sang about the little cabbage in front of her.
“The little cabbage is indeed pitiful. He had lost his mother when he was two years old. Then, he lived with his father. His father treated him nicely and he always left something nice for the little cabbage to eat. But, one day his father married a woman. He claimed that she would be his mother from now on. The little cabbage was happy at first. Now, he got both a father and a mother. But, his stepmother was a bad woman. She was nice to the little cabbage in front of his father. But, she started to abuse the little cabbage when his father was not around. The little cabbage went and told on her but his father refused to believe what he said. His father even beat him up for that. So, people always say that you’ll get a stepfather once you get a stepmother.”
“Are you afraid that I’ll bully you? Don’t worry, I never do that!” Lu Man promised.
“Why would I be afraid? Do you think that you’re able to do that?” Pei Zichen sneered at her.
Lu Man was again speechless.
One day, she would surely be choked to death by what he said!
“Then, why did you say that? Why are you still afraid of me?” She could not help but wonder.
“Who said I’m afraid of you?” He was afraid of her because of what his aunt had told him. He thought that she was a wicked woman and he would never beat her. He would soon become just like the pitiful little cabbage. But, he found that she was not as wicked as how his aunt had pictured her after he got to know her. He knew that she was unable to do those things to him. However, he would never admit that he was afraid of her once.
“Then why did you bring up the story of the little cabbage?” He was going to sleep but had gotten up and narrated the story about the little cabbage.
“I’m afraid that my father will become my stepfather one day. He adores you very much. He even ate the green peppers for you. Although you’re stupid, if my father becomes madly in love with you one day and listens to your every word, I might be abandoned by him no matter how intelligent I am!” He sighed.
“No, he won’t. He loves you deeply. He’ll never abandon you. Don’t you always focus on the story about stepmothers. Read some other stories too. You see! The rich people always abandon their wives. When have they ever abandoned their sons? Don’t think too much and scare yourself!” Lu Man could not help but give him some good advice. He really should be watching cartoons instead of those dramas.
“What you are saying is true.” Pei Zichen nodded.
“Yes, of course! You just enjoy your life. Don’t think too much! How wasteful would it be if you insist on being the little cabbage!”
