Lu Man disregarded her. She thought of her as a petty clown.
Pei Zichen ran to Pei Xiuyuan’s side. He looked at his father with his very loving eyes.
Lu Man raised her head and met with Mu Yunhai’s eyes. She got a bit emotional. But when she saw his expression, she could not understand why he looked so unhappy when he had already gotten what he wanted.
Looking at her eyes, knowing she cared about him, Mu Yunhai clenched his fists. All this would not have happened if he managed the matter better beforehand!
Pei Xiuyuan was talking to his son, but he kept an eye on their every move. When he saw that they were looking at each other, his eyes darkened. Lu Man still had not completely gotten over Mu Yunhai.
Wang Yunxi also noticed the way they were looking at each other. She was annoyed. “Pei Xiuyuan, you better guard your woman. Do not let her seduce my husband!”
She said it clear and precise, without hiding her feelings!
“Poor Miss Wang, you cannot even guard your husband’s heart when you are still young and pretty. Do not be like a dog, barking at every woman when she comes into your sight, poor little thing.” Lu Man was not a weakling. When she counterattacked, she showed no mercy.
“You bitch!” Wang Yunxi stood up angrily. She never thought that she would be treated like that in her own house, in her territory!
Compared to her rage, Lu Man was much calmer and more elegant. She just cocked her eyebrows and provoked her with her eyes. She was provoking her to start a fight if she even dared!
“Do you think I would not dare to do anything to you?” She was never afraid of anything! But as she was about to start the fight, Pei Xiuyuan spoked.
“Wang Yunxi.”
He was warning her.
Wang Yunxi bit her lower lip and sat down, unwillingly.
The dining table in their house was long and big enough to accommodate twenty people at a time. As they had just stopped the almost-war, the old lady entered the room.
Everyone turned around when they heard her, so did Lu Man.
When she looked at the old lady, the old lady had coincidentally looked at her. When their eyes met, Lu Man shuddered. She suddenly had an indescribable fear toward the old lady and turned pale. She was sure that she had never met her before, but she thought that her face, especially her eyes, were somehow very familiar! She could not understand the situation at all!
Believe it or not, she had a feeling that these eyes were the eyes that kept on appearing in her dreams, staring at her!
Her body became stiff and she felt suffocated. She was scared, but she did not know why. Her instinct told her to run away from here but she felt like she was trapped in her dream. It was terrifying. She could not move or scream no matter how hard she tried. She could only let her fear take over her body…
She felt cold as if somebody had drawn out the heat from her body…
Until a big warm hand held hers, she felt warmer.
She slowly cleared her mind.
“What’s wrong?” He was very worried about her. He saw her suffocating a little just now. He could not understand why she could get this nervous or she was actually scared.
“I…” Lu Man could not explain what she was feeling now.
“You do not have to be nervous or scared. Grandmother may look very strict, but she is not that terrifying.” Pei Xiuyuan thought that she was scared just because she was too nervous.
Lu Man did not know how to explain her dreams.
It seemed like after the accident when she was nineteen, she started to have this nightmare. In her dreams, she would see a pair of eyes. They were not fierce or cruel, but she had a strange fear for them. Fear from the bottom of her heart.
She was not timid, but she was afraid of that pair of eyes for unknown reasons.
When she saw those eyes appear right in front of her in real life, she could not do anything. Her fear suddenly just came and drowned her.
The old lady glanced at Lu Man once and sat down. She did not show any particular expression on her face.
“Manman, greet Grandmother.” Pei Xiuyuan reminded Lu Man with a whisper in her ear. “I am here, don’t be scared.”
He held her hand tightly. Was it because she was too scared that her hand was this cold in such a hot summer?
She was not a timid person. His grandmother was not a fierce woman. Why was she so scared?
“Grandmother…” Lu Man said with her head lowered down. She did not dare to look into her eyes.
“Call me Old Lady.” Apparently, the old lady had not accepted this granddaughter-in-law yet.
Wang Yunxi was so happy when she heard it. It seemed Grandmother disliked her without even needing them to make it happen! Great!
Pei Xiuyuan was not happy at all. “Grandmother, are you telling me to address you as ‘Old Lady’ as well in the future? Don’t you feel estranged from me?”
His tone was not cold or forceful, but it was a bit coquettish. He was juggling between the two of them, trying to defend his wife while not opposing his grandmother.
His effort was not appreciated. The old lady was irritated. “Are you threatening me?”
How dare he threaten her because of that woman! Damn it!
He was totally bewitched by that woman!
“Grandmother, why would I do so? Don’t you know that I am being coquettish?” When hearing a fully grown man say this, everyone at the table twitched their lips. They could never imagine how he was acting in a coquettish way!
The old lady was dumbfounded.
“Manman, bring out the present that you have prepared for Grandmother.” Pei Xiuyuan came close to her and told her softly.
His mother had died young. And when he was fifteen, his father passed away too. He was still too young to lead the family by then, so his grandmother had taken the role as the head of the family before he was capable of doing so. She might be a bit old-fashioned and tough, but she was still his grandmother, his family, so he hoped that she and his wife would get along well.
“Yes.” Although Lu Man was not fully calmed down, she was still aware of what she should do. She was sure that they had not met with each other before as they had very different social backgrounds. She could feel that Pei Xiuyuan was hoping that she could make the old lady happy and that they could get along. So, she could not ruin their first meeting just because of a nightmare!
She presented the gift to the old lady.
“Grandmother, this is the tea that Xiuyuan told me you have always liked.” She held the box with two hands and brought it to the front of the old lady.
The old lady looked at her coldly. She did not show it on her face, but her emotions were stirring. Was it a fate? She had never thought that she would someday be with Xiuyuan and be her granddaughter-in-law!
She did not take the present. Lu Man stood there not knowing what to do. She felt very awkward.
