After confirming the external appearance of the temporary modular building, An Wen left the company’s office.

He did not need to concern himself with the remaining work – the company would naturally design the interior of the building well, and then proceed with construction. All An Wen needed to do was to wait and receive his order.

On his way home, An Wen bought two small electrical generators and four barrels of diesel fuel.

After all, without electricity, life in the game world was inconvenient in many aspects.

When An Wen fully equipped himself and traveled back to the other world, it was exactly 2 p.m.

It was still nighttime in the other world, and the sky was even darker than when he left previously.

“It’s the darkness before dawn.”

An Wen remarked with emotion as he looked at the monster that was still wriggling about non-stop.

It was almost dawn. How long was the monster going to stay trapped?

An Wen was slightly bewildered when he found that the monster had no intention of escaping.

It would be extremely troublesome if monsters could remain alive under sunlight.

An Wen had already cut down all of the trees along the shore.

If he wanted to cut down more trees, he needed to cut the trees closer to the dense forest.

However, if the monsters were able to survive under sunlight, he would have to defend himself against the attacks of the monsters while cutting down trees, creating a very challenging situation to handle.

An Wen frowned as he pondered on a solution to the problem.

In the blink of an eye, ten minutes went by.

Finally, a dim, white glow emerged in the distant sky.

After the darkness before dawn, the sun was about to rise.

“I wonder if the sun in this world also rises in the East… No, there are no cardinal directions in this world as far as I know. There would surely not be a problem if I label the direction in which the sun rises as the East.”

As An Wen muttered to himself, he took out a screw and carved out four arrows on the ground outside the wooden house, to denote the four directions, North, South, East, and West.

“Great, I will be able to build South-facing houses in the future.”

An Wen did not have a clear idea of why houses had to face South.

However, for thousands of years, the Chinese ancestors had all been building houses in such a way, so they certainly had their reasons.

There was no need for him to brood over the rationale behind such, and he merely needed to follow suit and build South-facing houses.

Creak!

At that juncture, the rope was suddenly pulled taut, and the crisp sound of the stick stuck between the door and the wooden house echoed.

An Wen looked up, saw the rope, then looked at the monster.

“You’re finally escaping?”

At that moment, the monster was indeed trying to escape in the direction of the forest.

Unfortunately, the rope trapped him in his position and there was simply no way to escape.

An Wen cautiously made his way to the edge of the effective area of the fire pit. He then took a step out of the zone, then moved back again immediately.

“Mmm, all you’re thinking about now escaping, do you not want to attack me anymore?”

Seeing that the monster did not react, An Wen took a step out of the effective area once again.

Indeed, even though An Wen was outside of the effective area of the fire pit, the monster still did not care about his presence. The only thing it was thinking about was escaping.

“I really want to escape, but I can’t ~”

Elated at the situation, An Wen began singing aloud.

At that juncture, the glowing red sun gradually rose above the horizon.

Light from the sun illuminated the sky and shone on the snow-covered land.

“Tssst…”

Under the light of the rising sun, the monster, which was trapped by the rope, let out a desperate roar.

Hooo…

Moments later, the monster burst into flames, as if it were a piece of paper caught in a fire. Eventually, it turned into black ashes and disappeared into the air.

“Eh? Why does this setting seem like a certain vampire movie?”

An Wen looked at the rope and discovered that the rope was perfectly intact.

“When the monster was ignited by the sunlight, the flames did not seem to be physically real. They appear to act more like a certain mysterious force.”

However, such facts were simply not important. All would be well, as long as it could be confirmed that the monsters were unable to survive in the day.

The blazing sun gradually inched its way higher into the sky.

The snow covering the land began rapidly melting at an observable speed, and the temperature also began rising.

“What an insane setting.”

Within a short span of ten minutes, the temperature rose from 45 degrees below freezing to five degrees above freezing. As time passed, the temperature continued to increase rapidly.

Such a drastic change in temperatures seemed like a joke.

An Wen then returned home and removed his down coat. He changed into a pair of beach pants and a singlet, then carried the small electrical generators and barrels of fuel upstairs.

Ten minutes later…

When An Wen returned to the other world, the temperature had risen to 28 degrees.

“I’m not going to build a house today. I’ll cut down some wood and use it to make models, or beads to play.”

An Wen still felt sore throughout his body from building the house the previous day. He certainly did not want to torture his body any further.

Any problem that could be resolved with money was not actually a problem.

Extinguishing the fire in the fire pit, An Wen picked up the chainsaw and began sawing a tree.

Five seconds later, the large tree turned into a round wooden pole.

After the round wooden pole broke down, An Wen opened up the small electrical generator and connected the wire to the emergency backup power supply. Then, he connected another wire from the generator to a small bed-type wood milling machine.

“The heat from the sun is getting unbearable, I need to build a shed.”

As An Wen was about to mill the wood into beads, he quickly realized that it was just too scorchingly hot outdoors.

He had no other choice but to build a shed.

Sawing a few more trees, An Wen built a shed, then placed the bed-type wood milling machine inside, and began milling wood into beads to play.

“Buzz, buzz, buzz…”

After the wooden block was positioned properly in place, he started the electrical generator while loud buzzes began to echo. The blade of the milling machine started to spin.

Tszz, tszz, tsszz…

The blade began cutting the wooden block.

An Wen stared closely at the wooden block as he was afraid that the wooden block would be broken down into wooden planks, just like in the previous day. If such an event happened, he would have wasted all of his prior efforts.

Very soon, a round, spherical wooden bead was carved.

The wooden block did not break down into a wooden plank in the process.

“Why is this so?”

In all honesty, although An Wen was extremely glad that the wooden block did not turn into a wooden plank, he thought that such a situation was inconsistent with the settings of the game.

He had already experimented the day before – when he cut a wooden block, it was broken down into a wooden plank.

When he cut a wooden plank, it was broken down into wood shavings.

Why was he able to cut the block into a wooden bead?

After pondering the question for a short period, An Wen picked up another wooden block and placed it on the tree roots outside the shed. Then, he began cutting the wood block with the chainsaw.

Very quickly, the wooden block was broken down into a wooden plank.

“What on earth is going on?”

Truthfully, An Wen was somewhat bewildered.

He looked at the wooden plank in front, which had just been broken down from a wooden block, then at the wooden beads which were constantly being carved out by the bed-type wood milling machine in the shed, and fell deep into thought.

“Eh?”

At that juncture, An Wen suddenly realized something different about the wooden shed.

On the pillar of the wooden shed was a small and white virtual dot.

When An Wen made his way closer, the small white dot turned into a virtual screen, similar to that which appeared on the wooden house the previous day. The attributes of the wooden shed were also displayed on the screen.

“Building: Simple Wood Processing Plant”

“Grade: Ordinary”

“Attributes: Wood Processing Efficiency +10%, Wood Processing Quality +15%”

“Special Effect: Activation of Wood Processing and Crafting List”

“Income: 325 Survival Points / Hour”

After reading the attributes of the wooden shed, An Wen became stunned.

He had only wanted to build a shed to shade himself from the sun, how did he create a wood processing plant?

Putting everything else aside, what did the “Activation of Wood Processing and Crafting List” mean?

An Wen looked around and finally found an icon on the bottom left corner of the virtual screen.

The logo of the icon was a wood-carved model.

‘Clicking’ the icon, an enormous list appeared before An Wen.

“This… how is this a Wood Processing and Crafting List? This is more like a technology tree.”

The list in front of his eyes looked similar to the ability trees found in many games.

There were complicated linkages between the various crafts in the list, from the most fundamental wooden bowls, wooden hammers, and wood carvings, to other items which were further down the list.

At present, apart from the three fundamental processed crafts in the list which were lighted up, the wooden beads item, which was located further down the list, were also lighted up.

“The wooden bowl represents essential household tools, and wooden stools, wooden tables, and wooden cabinets are one level below. These are then linked further down to the branch below wooden hammers, which consists of horse carriages, buildings, and houses. They are subsequently linked to other branches, and finally to a palace.”

“The wooden hammer represents manufacturing tools, which are linked to the branch of wood carvings, consisting of water wheels and machine tools. These are then linked further down to a wooden ox.”

“The wooden carving represents art and technical skills, and is linked further down to other branches, which consists of micro-carvings and delicate machinery parts.”

An Wen muttered to himself as he scrolled down the list.

Very quickly, he reached the bottom of the list, where three ultimate skills appeared.

“Machine Megacity, Sacred War Beast, and Ancient Flying Eagle… What on earth, they must all be part of a fantasy.”

An Wen was completely dumbfounded when he saw the last three ultimate skills.

Machine City was something that everyone knew about from the legend of the Mo Family’s Machine City. There were many descriptions of the city in both animation films and games alike.

However, the Machine City in the list was a true war fortification. According to its description, the city was able to defend against attacks from hundreds of thousands of monsters.

The next ultimate skill, Sacred War Beast was similar to an attack weapon. It was a sacred beast used in war that resembled the Black Tortoise. It was eight storeys tall and able to rampage through hordes of monsters.

Finally, Ancient Flying Eagle was an even more mystical creature, able to fly in the sky for three days without stopping on the ground. It was a creature that humans could ride on to fly in the sky.

I want one!

Seeing the picture, An Wen’s eyes shone brightly. It was as if his wife had released a new, exquisite garage kit and he wanted it very badly.

“Eh? I need Survival Points to level up the skills?”

It was at that point when An Wen finally knew what Survival Points were for.

However, he only had 280 Survival Points. He could not even afford to buy the manufacturing skill of the Wooden Palace, and acquiring the Machine Operation Skill was way out of his reach.

“Geez… This is so enticing, I really want them.”

An Wen chided as he turned to leave the wooden shed. He then picked up the chainsaw to start sawing trees.

Was he really never going to build houses again?

In the face of something so enticing, everything he said before was garbage.
