Farming With The In-game World - Chapter 1

Jing’an District, Shanghai!

In the workshop of a duplex house in an affluent neighborhood, An Wen was disinfecting several glass containers with alcohol.

“Firstly, I’ll disinfect the containers with alcohol, then rinse them with distilled water, and finally heat them up in the disinfection cabinet to sterilize and leave them to dry. I should be able to preserve the ‘clean state’ inside each glass container,” An Wen muttered and described his actions as he wiped and cleaned the glass containers meticulously.

Not a single spot was left uncleaned.

It was as if he was an extreme germaphobe who suffered from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Ten minutes later.

Wearing a pair of rubber gloves, An Wen retrieved several glass containers from the disinfection cabinet.

By then, An Wen was already ‘fully armed’ – dressed in a down coat, his entire body was wrapped up tightly.

Seconds later, he vanished away from the room.

That’s right, he completely vanished.

On a secluded snow-covered island, with the glass containers in his hand, An Wen began collecting samples of snow and soil from the island.

“It’s so cold! At nearly 45 degrees below freezing, I feel as if I’m going to freeze to death.”

An Wen glanced at his thermometer and sniffed his mucus back into his nose forcefully.

Even though he was wearing a thick mask, An Wen still felt that his mucus had completely frozen solid.

Very quickly, he finished collecting samples of snow and soil.

With the one remaining glass container he had, An Wen made his way to the seaside and collected a sample of the seawater.

“This world simply defies the laws of science. How is the seawater still liquid at such a low temperature?”

At such a low temperature, even the presence of salt could not stop the water from freezing.

Of course, normally at the very least, the surface of the seawater at the shoreline would freeze solid.

However, in front of An Wen, the seawater which he collected was still deep blue in color. The water on the shoreline showed absolutely no signs of freezing into ice.

Even the fine sand on the beach remained as smooth as silk, just like that on a tropical beach.

It was just simply poles apart from what An Wen knew in science.

After An Wen finished collecting the samples and sealed the containers tightly, he vanished completely from the secluded island.

In the same instant, An Wen reappeared in his workshop.

“Hoo… I feel a lot more comfortable in a warmer environment.”

Feeling a sense of warmth once again, An Wen could feel the pores on his face opening once again.

He then removed the down coat that he was wearing and pulled out a tortoise, which was about the size of his palm, from the pocket of his inner shirt.

Mmm, it was a pet of which a certain girl – whose name he could not be remembered – had given him. The turtle’s name was Yuan Pan.

None of which mattered, however.

What An Wen was concerned about was the state of the tortoise.

Perhaps, it felt that it had finally emerged from a tight, confined space.

Yuan Pan stretched his head out from his shell, his two small eyes looking An Wen up and down, as if he was questioning what kind of mischief the moron was up to.

Initially, Yuan Pan was laying at the base of the bay window, bathing in the warmth of the sunlight, looking down at the scenery outside in silence.

The next moment, however, he was grabbed by An Wen and shoved into his pocket.

As such, he released an extremely innocent and pitiful look from his eyes as he gazed at An Wen.

“Eh?”

When An Wen saw the innocent look in Yuan Pan’s small eyes, the expression on his face changed in an instant.

He then gently threw Yuan Pan onto the table and got down to work.

In the fastest time possible, he took off his clothes and threw them into the washing machine. He then poured in a large amount of disinfectant.

Next, he sterilized the outer surface of the few glass containers with disinfectant.

Following which, he took out an ultraviolet disinfection lamp and shone it at the places which he had walked past.

Indeed, Yuan Pan was not spared from the disinfection with the ultraviolet lamp either.

After he was finished, An Wen finally heaved a sigh of relief.

He then took his bath towel and jumped into the shower.

Splish-splash!

The sound of water falling from the shower was loud and clear.

Standing under the shower, An Wen began pondering silently.

“First of all, it can be confirmed that that world is not on Earth, because there were two moons. However, I did not feel any differences in the force of gravity between that world and Earth. Also, I did not have any difficulties breathing while I was there.”

“Next, I crossed into that world with Yuan Pan and who is still completely fine, which means that I am able to cross into that world while bringing other living things along with me, including any bacteria and viruses.”

“Lastly, the secluded island I landed on upon crossing over was very peculiar. The temperature there was extremely low, and yet there was lush greenery growing in abundance. Even the snow-covered plants continued to grow well, and their blooming flowers could still be seen underneath the layers of snow.”

An Wen summarized what he learned from his two crossovers.

Indeed, An Wen had only performed two crossovers so far.

The first was when An Wen woke up one morning and felt that he could cross over to another world. He controlled himself to cross over subconsciously, but was instantly frozen in the intense cold, so he quickly returned.

The second time that he crossed over to the other world was just now.

He prepared adequately and wore a down coat before he crossed over to the other world as an experiment, and also to collect samples.

His conclusions from moments ago were made precisely by summarizing the information that he got from the two crossovers.

“Crossing over is an extremely serious matter which must be treated with caution.

“It won’t hurt to be overly cautious when dealing with an unknown world.”

An Wen did not think of himself as the protagonist of a novel. Acquiring such a peculiar ability which allowed him to cross over to another world did not mean that he could simply act recklessly.

With the physique of a homebody, he was uncertain if he could explore the secluded island by himself.

That aside, the contrast between the two worlds was such that could lead to his complete demise if he was not careful.

It was even possible that as a result of his experiments, the real world could be implicated and the entire human population could be wiped out.

An Wen’s experiments were not a joke.

He could be reckless while playing games, however, when it came to crossing over between two worlds, he needed to carefully plan out his route before taking any action.

Besides, as a child of the nouveau riche, he could be adventurous, but it was better not to risk his life.

An Wen was a child of the nouveau riche, one whose family had a publicly listed company, and one who owned eight properties, as well as a villa, in Shanghai.

He had not yet finished enjoying his life, and there was no way that he would venture directly into another world like an imprudent daredevil.

Were games no longer enjoyable to him?

Were there no attractive girls who wanted to spend time with him?

Or had he travelled to all the different countries and visited all the major tourist attractions in the world? Did he feel that Earth was no longer interesting enough?

It was not as if he had neither kith nor kin; before he did anything, he still had to spare a thought for his parents who had raised him for over 20 years.

An Wen’s thought train then drifted to his name.

The name ‘An Wen’ could be thought to mean ‘safe and secure’.

His parents did not hope for him to be rich and wealthy, but simply hoped for his safety.

Such was true, given that after he graduated from university, he was a homebody who remained at home most of the time, without carrying out any purposeful work.

All day long, he played games, dabbled in aeromodelling, and made handicrafts, but his parents remained unconcerned.

The nation had also just implemented the two-child policy, and his parents had obeyed the policy well. However, this was not an important fact. As parents, they simply hoped that their child would live happily and healthily.

Anyway, since their family was wealthy, they did not require him to work as a means of survival. The only thing they wanted was for him to be happy.

As such, as someone who transitioned into an idle lifestyle of the solitary elderly immediately after graduating from university, An Wen felt as if his life was very enjoyable.

He absolutely did not need to go on an adventure in the other world without having a clear, detailed idea of what was going on.

Even if there was a pile of gold on the island, he was too lazy to collect it.

There was no point in asking why – he simply did not need money.

After he finished showering, he put on his clothes.

“I’m so handsome!”

He looked at himself in the mirror – he was still as handsome as he had always been.

The truth was that his looks were actually ordinary; he was handsome mainly due to his high spending power, as well as the high-end, branded apparel that he wore.

However, that did not matter to him, for he felt that being fashionable was also a part of being handsome.

Otherwise, why else would people purchase character skins and clothes when they played games?

After An Wen finished admiring himself in the mirror briefly, he placed the samples from the other world in a briefcase, and took the lift down to the underground garage.

“Hmm… which car should I drive?”

He looked at the three vehicles parked in the underground garage and could not decide on which car to drive.

One of the three vehicles was a BMW pickup truck, which he used when he went for aeromodelling outdoors, as he needed to pull his model airplane along.

The other was an Extended Stretch Platinum Edition Cadillac Escalade, which he usually drove to fetch his friends when they went out together.

The third was an Aston Martin DBS, which he drove to school.

“Forget it, since I’m going to school to test the samples, I will keep a lower profile and drive the ‘higher-class Mondeo’.”

An Wen opened the door of the Aston Martin and got in with his briefcase.

Vroom…

The low grumble of the car engine echoed throughout the garage.

Moments later, the Aston Martin swiftly bursted out of the underground garage.
