Emperor of Nine Suns - Chapter 44

After Chu Chen had been sent back to his nest, he fell into a deep slumber and his body began to have quickly absorbed the scorching energy from the fog dispelling orb.

Ling Xuan took another look at the sleeping eaglet in the nest with a gentle expression on her face.

A light breeze came by the top of the tomb and caused Ling Xuan’s hair to have fluttered in the wind. She stared into the distant with her flawless features and icy cold gaze.

“Even the fog dispelling orb is of no use. It seems the Black Fog Valley is a lead I can’t follow through. I’ll have to start looking for new leads back at Nether Sect again. Master, I’ll find you wherever you are!”

“Little one, after this, we might not be able to see each other again.”

Ling Xuan turned around and sighed. At first she thought of making a blood pact with the eaglet after it grew up and made it her battle companion. However, after the eaglet saved her life, she changed her plans.

The eagle would have surely had its own path. If it were restricted, then its growth in the future would have been limited. In the end, it had been better to have let it grow freely.

Meanwhile, it had been about time for her to have embarked on her own journey.

After another sigh, Ling Xuan gently caressed the eagle’s smooth black feathers and went away.

“Since you mentioned that we might not meet again, then I’ll have to send you off.”

On a path to Black Fog Valley from the Crystal Spring Mountain, a figure ran at full speed.

Upon having landed in the nest, the eaglet clone slowly fell asleep. However, Chu Chen managed to have vaguely made out Ling Xuan’s farewell.

Perhaps it had just been as Ling Xuan said, they might not have met again after this farewell. After all, the world had been huge. Many have never met each other again after their farewell.

Just as Chu Chen entered the vicinity of Dragon’s Tomb, he saw a young woman dressed in black walking briskly in the distance. Her face seemed cold, but there had been a hint of sorrow in her eyes. She seemed to have been lost in thoughts with her head lowered and did not notice Chu Chen, who had been approaching her.

On the somewhat narrow path, Ling Xuan only realized the young man before her when they had been close enough to have almost collided into each other. Only then did she notice the dashing young man had been checking her out.

A killing intent immediately flared up within Ling Xuan’s eyes. It could have been said that she had lost her value for human life and would have killed without hesitation ever since she massacred the Nether Sect.

Self preservation would have always been her top priority. Apart from her master, everyone else’s lives had been worthless.

Just as her gaze crossed with the calm young man, the killing intent within Ling Xuan disappeared and a sudden feeling of warmth welled up from within her. ‘W-w-what’s going on?’

Why had she felt a strange sense of familiarity with this young man even though she had once vowed not to have cared for anyone’s life other than her master’s.

It had been a stranger that she could have easily eliminated, yet why had her heart been so confused?

In the middle of that confusion, Ling Xuan and Chu Chen brushed past each other on the path.

“Miss.”

Chu Chen called out to Ling Xuan, who only wanted to have left this troubling place as soon as possible. Ling Xuan had not needed to to have entertained him, yet she could not have resisted but to have turned around to ask with a cold expression, “What?”

“The wind is growing. I’m afraid a storm is coming. With the stormy weather out there, you should be careful on your journey.”

Hearing Chu Chen’s words, Ling Xuan’s eyes turned red. It was as though the eaglet had sent her off. How did the stranger she met by the road have understood how she felt?

“If you are lost and in need of a place to return to, I believe you have a friend that will wait for you here and protect you.”

Ling Xuan tried her best to have held back her tears. She turned around, not having dared to look at Chu Chen. “What a joke. What kind of person am I, that I would require protection? I’m the demon girl that kills without hesitation. Young man…if not for my lack of interest in killing, you’d be a dead body by now. The next time you meet me, you better hide and stay far away or don’t blame me for being merciless.”

With that said, she turned around and flew away without having looked back, having disappeared into the distance as a flash of light shortly.

Chu Chen looked at the direction Ling Xuan departed and felt as though something had just left him. Would he have ever met this weird demon girl again? Perhaps not again in this life.

Chu Chen arrived at the edge of the nest and looked inside. His eaglet clone had still been slumbering away with the spiritual herbs in its beak.

He picked up the dull blue herbs and examined it closely. After realizing it had been something he had never seen before, he started probing it with his spiritual consciousness.

Immediately, he sensed a pure lightning energy that rumbled within the spiritual herbs, as though it would have shot out of it at any time.

Chu Chen concluded that these spiritual herbs would have needed to be processed as soon as possible after extraction or it would have risked being destroyed.

“T-t-that’s a lightning herb!”

Although Chu Chen had not known what lightning herbs were, he could tell from those greedy, glowing eyes of the store owner that it had been something good.

“Brother, just where did you get all these precious herbs that others can’t find?”

The owner studied the dull blue lightning herbs with a piece of spiritual lens while having muttered in surprise. Envy had been written all over his face.

“I just dug it out randomly.”

Although Chu Chen’s answer had been the truth, the owner had not believed him one bit. Having rolled his eyes, the owner showed his disapproval of Chu Chen’s so-called lies.

Chu Chen could not have been bothered. “How much are these lightning herbs worth?”

“This…” The owner had put down the spiritual lens and took on a complicated expression. “Although the lightning herbs could be considered priceless, it can also be worthless.”

“Owner, be frank with me.”

“The lightning herb contains large amounts of lightning energy from the scorching sun. This scorching lightning energy is the essence that helps dispel evil. For a cultivator whose Qi is deviated, it’s a life saving medicine.” The owner then suddenly changed his tone. “However, the lightning herb’s shelf life is really short and it can’t be refined into an elixir. In a short time, if no cultivators with Qi deviation buys it, it’s as good as trash.”

“Then what’s your suggestion?”

“Don’t think that I’m trying to lower your price. The scorching lightning energy in these herbs are too strong. Even a cultivator in the Spiritual Droplets Stage won’t be able to withstand it. Only a cultivator with Qi deviation that’s of a higher stage could make use of it.” The owner frowned. “Why don’t I buy it off you with fifty spirit stones? I’ll have to bear a huge risk. If I don’t sell it within ten days, it’ll be wasted in my hands.”

“How can I let you bear the risk with your savings? Let’s go with the old arrangement. You can just auction it off for me.”

Chu Chen decided to have tried his luck by having placed it in the sect’s trading platform. He had no fear of it to have been wasted in his hands as there had been plenty of spiritual herbs in the Black Fog Valley. At most he would have just needed to collect some again.

The auction time limit had been set to five days. After having placed it on auction, Chu Chen paid it no heed and started preparing for condensing his spiritual droplet. His cultivation stage had reached the great perfection stage of the Spiritual Mist Stage and it had been time to have condensed a spiritual droplet to have made his attempt at the Spiritual Droplet Stage.
