Doctor Resignation - Chapter 4

“As you know, I have been in the operating state of the upper building. So, I am busy right now.”

After the test was over, Ferelmen glanced at me and spoke in a low and quick tempered voice.

“Of course, my lord.”

“I am also quite busy personally too.”

His personal problem of work was probably about finding his lost daughter.

“My assistant always stayed in the Duke’s manor. If there is a problem with the medical prescription, call me immediately. I am sure you are not stupid.”

“Of course.”

I nodded calmly as I ate my last pudding.

“If a doctor are deem to be stupid, it would cause a huge trouble, my lord.”

“Fortunately, I don’t think you are stupid at all. Standby tomorrow, I will be introducing you to Her Grace Duchess Cercius and His future Grace, Erhan Cercius.”

He made a simple gesture like a sign as if he was calling a servant to do something.

Soon, three plates of pudding were served in front of me.

“If the pudding tastes that good, you should ask for more and don’t eat it little by little. I hardly see your struggle.”

Struggle?

‘Wah, he really has that talent where people can hardly say thank you to him.’

It would be nice if you said that I am good rather than useful.

Maybe he really said that he misunderstood my sulky reaction.

“Today is quite difficult. Baron Ishid and Young Master Wederick are here today, so we are busy enough.”

I was chewing my precious pudding before literally almost bit my tongue by mistake.

‘Wederick? Erhan’s cousin? The one who started the rebellion and brought this Dukedom to ashes?!’

If I have no sense of commitment and duty as a doctor, I would be planning to kill him.

Medical’s knowledge has a lot of poison’s learning area. And I already mastered them.

Too bad, I have my own self-respect.

‘It’s a knowledge that I have learnt to save people. Not killing them.’

Even if it is a personal grudge nor changing the future, I wouldn’t want to kill people with my knowledge.

‘So now, Wederick is here with his father.’

I remembered the time when they easily took control of everything almost in a split second. I gritted my teeth in a regretful manner.

‘If I thought about this, the situation itself was suspicious. It was as if they were planning to rebel from the very beginning.’

It was indeed peculiar, as if the Baron was waiting for Erhan’s death. He even entered the Duchy with Wederick as his only child.

Furthermore, the complicated process of discussing about aristocrats’ heir would take about a month or two. But, when Erhan died, the process of choosing the heir was decided almost immediately.

And the very next day, they declared that they will be joining the rebellion troops.

One of the philosophers once said that if something has been prepared for a long time, it would definitely be a success. It sounds like they were scheming from the start.

I gulped my pudding. It was hard to swallow as I was getting goosebumps with all the theories.

‘Oh my.. don’t tell me that, my theories are true?’

After the meal, I took a walk to sight-seeing the Duchy with Jenny.

It was my first time staying in such a great house, so I couldn’t help but feel mesmerised.

Everywhere was colorful and tidy, and the scale was enormous. Not forgetting the design was completely organised.

‘This wonderful place was completely ruined back then…’

At that time, I had been treating the injured rebels without saying a word because of Wederick and his advisor’s command.

Unfortunately, the treatment that I do to them was not good, but I remembered working silently to save people anyway.

Jenny grinned as she was walking beside me.

“As expected, the luncheon must have been a success.” (Jenny)

“There is neither good nor bad. I was supposed to meet with madame and the little duke for tomorrow.” (Lise)

“Then it was a tremendous success!” (Jenny)

Jenny gives me a nice thumbs’ up and smiles gently.

“Usually, it took someone to shed some tears for almost a week and Sir Ferelmen would teach them strictly. After that, he would introduce the interns’ assistant who endured the overworking. You must be very confident, miss.” (Jenny)

“That is quite fair enough. I have all the requirements and the qualities to become a doctor.” (Lise)

I answered calmly and it was quite natural. Jenny laughed as if I was joking with her.

“My lord was very busy. His burden may be lifted if he has a reliable assistant here.” (Jenny)

“It’s because of the upper office isn’t it?” (Lise)

“Yes.”

Jenny gave me a faint look as she breathed a sigh.

“Actually, the upper office was already doing well with their work by searching for his daughter all over the continent.” (Jenny)

“Oh.” (Lise)

I didn’t know there would be a heartbreaking story behind Ferelmen past despite being successful.

“But when his close friend, Duke Cerseus, was in a critical condition and died… he couldn’t leave this place because of the gulit.” (Jenny)

Jenny laughed bitterly.

“He is a very poor man at heart. I hope you don’t take his word too much.” (Jenny)

Not surprising though, he even bought clothes for his missing child and threw them away after the season ended.

I could feel his desperation.

He never found his daughter at the end. Ferelmen died on Wederick’s hand before having an opportunity to find his lost daughter.

This time, I’m going to stick close to Erhan and save him somehow, so maybe Ferelmen can find his daughter.

‘But somehow will he die after having such a mean temper?’

I was walking in the beautiful flower garden with such altruistic thoughts. It was peaceful yet full with the aesthetics’ of the blooming floras. It was then, I heard a quarrel coming from somewhere.

“Erhan, why can’t you catch a ball like this? As expected, something is wrong with you. You’d better not move your body.” (Wederick)

Erhan?

I jerked my head to the name of the person that I have been looking for all this time.

“People think you are funny and weird. I think I already remind you, do not exercise regularly. You will be a laughing stock among nobles. You’ve been sick since you were little.” (Wederick)

Wait. Who’s who in this quarrel?

I peeked through somewhere that I didn’t know where the hell is this location.

There, it was a seventeen-year-old boy who was being quite cheeky and a brat in front of 13-year-old skinny Erhan.

Wederick’s image was clear enough to me. Light brown hair and also that deep red eyes as dawn.

And I saw Erhan, who was way shorter than me, holding the ball in a sad and pitiful manner.

“And you will gain a lot of weight even if you eat a little. By saying eating a lot is also a characteristic of children who will always be sick like you and lying down on bed.” (Wederick)

Wederick constantly tried to manipulate while reacting with disapproval.

“I understand…” (Erhan)

Erhan bowed his head and hummed quietly.

“So don’t eat too much food. You don’t want to be a pig, do you? If you’re hungry, eat this cookie that I give you.” (Wederick)

Ohoi, this guy? Seriously?

I let go of Jenny’s hand that was holding me firmly.

“Miss?”

Jenny looked down at me with her eyes wide open as if she was surprised when I let go of her hand.

I answered calmly.

“Please go on your way, Jenny. I have a place to go.” (Lise)

“Suddenly?”

“Yes.” (Lise)

“I can’t allow you yet because it’s too complicated-” (Jenny)

“I’ve already memorized the location of the manor.” (Lise)

I strode across the garden after leaving her behind.
