Demon Pets’ Black Tech Nest - Chapter 34

As they were near the water pool, Cao Yan and Eggy communicated silently, in case they alerted the demon within the cave.

Cao Yan pointed at the cave, implying: What’s inside?

Obviously, Eggy had visited this area when it lived in the forest previously. Hence, it should be clear on what they would find in which part of the forest. Now that Cao Yan asked, it quickly replied by lifting its first two limbs and spreading them apart to its maximum, hinting that there was a very long beast inside.

Very long?

Was it thick?

Cao Yan made a circular motion with his arm to ask Eggy.

Eggy replied with an empty hug motion, showing that it was of average thickness that could be wrapped around with one’s arms.

Cao Yan nodded. He guessed the demon beast within the cave was long and of average thickness. It should be a big, long worm, which was a snake.

Before he could ask any more questions, Eggy suddenly motioned something else. It formed a hoop with its limbs and drew two circles…

“???”

What was the meaning of that? Was it not a snake but a circular demon beast? No, unless… that large snake had also laid eggs?

Cao Yan fell silent for a while. He decided to give it a go. It was better than leaving without even finding out what was inside.

They didn’t delay any longer, springing into action.

The duo first retreated to somewhere further and caught a stage-one demon beast, a forest demon wolf.

This wolf was the bait they had prepared for the giant snake in the cave. Its job was to lure the demon out. After settling the bait, Cao Yan and Eggy started to set up the trap so that they would have the snake in the bag.

After bringing the demon wolf back to the pool of water, Eggy spun a web silently while Cao Yan did the other preparations.

The trap was quickly completed.

Cao Yan and Eggy each went up a tree and hid well.

Eggy blew out some black gas, which landed on the spider web binding the demon wolf. The web disintegrated silently.

Before the wolf could escape, Cao Yan pointed at his glabella and pulled his finger out gently. The tip of his finger was glowing faintly. Indeed, he was using the spiritual bridge once again. He pointed at the wolf, and the faint glow landed on its glabella.

The next instant, the demon wolf fell under Cao Yan’s control. It began to dash towards the pool of water.

When it arrived by the pool, it let out a long howl. It then turned around to urinate into the pool with the intention of provoking the demon beast inside.

However, all was silent, and there was no sign of movement within the cave.

Cao Yan waited for a while. Just when he was about to make the demon wolf continue stirring trouble, he heard shuffling sounds coming from within the cave. Soon, he could make out a faint silhouette of the demon beast within.

It quickly appeared at the entrance of the cave and poked its head out.

“Eggy, you idiot! This isn’t a snake!” Cao Yan glued his eyes to the entrance of the cave as he berated Eggy.

Eggy threw him a disdainful glance. I’m not going to take the blame here. I didn’t say it’s a snake; you guessed it on your own.

The demon beast that exited the cave was rather peculiar. It looked a little like a snake but had legs like a lizard. However, it was slightly longer than a lizard, so it appeared to be a combination of a lizard and a snake. It was actually a cave salamander.

There were descriptions of cave salamanders in books about demon beasts. They were thought to be distant relatives of dragons.

One should know that once something had any relation to a dragon, it would always be a fierce beast.

This cave salamander was brownish-black and was covered in tiny scales. It had poked its head around a meter out of the cave, and judging from that, it should be around six meters long from head to tail.

Although such beasts were usually found in their caves, they had wings and could fly for short distances at a breakneck speed.

Cave salamanders were amphibians and were usually stage four demon beasts. Their strength lay in the earth element.

The one standing in front of Cao Yan had a pair of meaty wings on its back, which were covered with magical patterns. It was a stage-four elite demon beast!

It seemed like Eggy really was a fool.

Luckily, Cao Yan had taken into consideration the possibility of Eggy luring a beast that they could not handle, so he wasn’t completely unprepared.

Since the beast had taken the bait, it was not possible for them to give up and run. They could only brace themselves for the challenge ahead.

Although cave salamanders were very powerful, they had a glaring weakness—their eyesight. Due to dwelling in caves over long periods, their vision had deteriorated during evolution, making them almost blind. Therefore, to tackle them, one had to make use of their poor eyesight.

Cao Yan and Eggy exchanged glances. Time crept past, and if they wanted to take action, it had to be soon.

Just as the cave salamander’s barbels moved towards the demon wolf, Cao Yan decisively threw an attributive demon ball.

The attributive demon ball contained ample space and strong suction power. Hence, even though the cave salamander was a stage-four beast, it was caught off-guard and sucked into the ball.

Of course, Cao Yan would not count on a demon ball to capture it successfully. That was only step one.

The next moment, the patterns on the demon ball cracked one by one; the cave salamander was struggling inside. Its horrifying howl tore through the demon ball and into the night outside.

Crack!

The demon ball cracked into pieces as the cave salamander escaped its capture. Of course, it was currently infuriated.

Cao Yan threw the first demon ball so that it would lead to the next trap.

While the cave salamander was stuck within the demon ball, Cao Yan had used his spiritual energy to move the demon ball into the trap that he and Eggy had set up beforehand.

When the cave salamander broke free from the demon ball, it landed right on Eggy’s web.

Just like that, the cave salamander landed right into a spider’s web after breaking free from the demon ball. It made it even more agitated, and the salamander struggled with all its might to break free from its new restrictions.

The web was spanned across four tree trunks. As the elite cave salamander thrashed around, the trees started shaking so violently that they were almost uprooted.

Bam! One tree fell.

After that, the cave salamander’s continuous struggle also broke the other three trees. Although the web was still sticking on to it, it was at least free from the trap and had regained its movement capabilities.

At that moment, Eggy rushed out at the cave salamander.

Cao Yan, hiding in another tree, found it strange, but he did not join the battle. Instead, he used his spiritual energy to regulate his breathing, heartbeat, and even body temperature to avoid being detected by the cave salamander.

Just then, Eggy, dashing towards the cave salamander, shot out a strand of spider silk at a tree far away. It used the strand to swing itself away like spiderman, avoiding all frontal contact with the cave salamander.

The cave salamander definitely wouldn’t let Eggy off just like that, so it started chasing Eggy. In just a second, the two had disappeared into the distance.

Cao Yan came down from the tree after they left.

He had come up with two plans with Eggy previously. If the beast that came out of the cave was not powerful, they would either kill it or capture it. If it was, though, Eggy would be in charge of luring it away, while Cao Yan would stay behind… to take a look inside its nest.

Based on what Eggy motioned to him just now, this cave salamander seemed to have just laid its eggs, so the cave should not be empty!

Cao Yan took action immediately. He made the demon wolf that had almost wet itself run into the cave to scout it out. Once he was confident that there was no danger within, Cao Yan would crawl in.

After three to four minutes, Cao Yan ran out from the cave and sent Eggy a message with his spiritual energy: Make a dash for it. I’ve got it.
