There were many roads leading towards Magic Metropolis from the forest. Similarly, narrow pathways leading in and out of the forest also existed.
Cao Yan peeked out from behind the tree and saw the scene on a pathway in the forest.
The pathway stretched out along a vast area of empty land. The moon shone brightly, and with Cao Yan’s improved vision, he could see the fight between two groups of people.
There were more than ten people in total. All of them were fighting without speaking, with only occasional grunts here and there. Their blows were all hard and vicious.
One of the groups won in numbers, with nine people on their side. Their faces were all covered with black cloth so they could not be recognized.
The other group only had five people, and the situation looked bleak for them.
According to Cao Yan’s observations, it seemed as though the masked group wanted to do something illegal like looting. However, the other party refused to submit, leading to the conflict.
“The security in Magic Metropolis is excellent. I haven’t encountered anything against the law till now, but it’s different out of the city… These two groups are so fierce.”
While hiding behind the tree, Cao Yan also noticed two small carts beside the pathway. They were tightly sealed, so he could not see their contents.
If this was a robbery, the fight was obviously because of these two carts.
There were no cars in this world; at least Cao Yan had not seen any for the few days he was in Magic Metropolis. It was not because the technology here was not good enough to make a car; rather, there was just too much deserted land in the Green Jungle. Hence, modes of transportation like cars, which relied heavily on particular kinds of road surfaces, were impractical in a world like this.
Besides, there were way better substitutes for cars here—demon beasts.
Other the fact that riding demons would be more environmentally friendly because it would not contribute to pollution, demons with high stages also had supernatural powers like calling the wind. They would be way faster than cars.
It was said that there was a type of flying carriage pulled by a nine-winged dragon. Something like that was hard to imagine before seeing it for themselves.
Cao Yan looked at the two carts at the side of the road. They were pulled by a demon called Wind-calling beast, a demon with stamina and explosive power.
Such demon beasts were commonly seen pulling carts. It looked like a giant horse with six legs and was almost two meters tall. Its muscles were large and sturdy, and it ran as quickly as the wind.
Cao Yan did not focus much on the two carts. Instead, he concentrated on the fight. It was his first time witnessing combat between people with supernatural powers, and it was a chance hard to come by.
The leader of the robbed group was an elderly man. He fought without weapons, and his strength was evident.
Thunderous waves accompanied his punches. A humongous ancient tree at the side fell when it came in contact with the waves and was even covered by a layer of icy blue crystals.
This was indeed a science-defying world. Cao Yan shrank further into the darkness.
The power levels of the people in supernatural occupations were the same as that of a demon pet trainer. There were a total of 15 stages. Based on Cao Yan’s observation, this elderly man had obviously passed stage one.
However, he was still on the losing end in this fight. His skills could not be compared to the leader of the masked group.
The man was wearing an exoskeletal combat armor, which represented another significant occupation in this world—the combat robot fighter.
The elderly man was restricted in various ways in this fight. In a moment of carelessness, he was punched in the chest by the combat robot fighter. The latter’s armored glove left the elderly man flying like a ragdoll as he spat some blood out.
“Wow, that’s impressive. The so-called robot fighter is actually the perfect combination of robotics and the body to boost a person’s power. The solo combat gear seems like superweapons tailored for men. It’s akin to fighting while wearing an add-on.”
Cao Yan concluded as he watched with gleaming eyes. “According to the original body’s memory, the combat robot masters in this world are more like scientists. Their main occupation is not fighting. The top few in the industry are even capable of building a robotic city…”
The masked group was now in full control of the situation, and there were slowly casualties and deaths in the elderly man’s group.
The elderly man himself was also severely injured. After receiving a blow from his opponent, he turned to the forest in an attempt to escape.
The leader of the combat robot fighters suddenly looked in the direction of Cao Yan while the elderly man was making a run for it. He instructed one of his subordinates, who had just killed an opponent, “Our operation tonight must not be leaked. Check that side. If there’s someone there, find him and kill him.”
After saying that, he turned to give chase to the elderly man. The subordinate laughed coldly and rushed towards Cao Yan in a flash.
“These people speak of killing so easily. How vicious. Looks like benevolence is a luxury that I must use sparingly in order to survive in this world.”
Cao Yan was not flustered even when the other party was about to find him.
He had come here to watch them fight, and since he dared to spectate, he had the confidence to escape unscathed.
If someone else was in his position, there would only be two choices, fight or flight. Cao Yan had thought it through on an even deeper level. He was not prepared to fight head-on with the other party and reveal his face. That would only result in more trouble.
Of course, he would not choose to flee without a fight.
Just as his opponent was about to reach him, Cao Yan put one finger at his glabella and concentrated his spiritual energy to make use of the spiritual bridge once again. The soft glow at the tip of his finger gathered into a point. It then shot out onto the glabella of one of the wind-calling beasts in one of the two carts.

That wind-calling beast let out a mighty roar and started sprinting.
Cao Yan caught the right timing. The masked man coming towards him was just in the vicinity of the carts. When the wind-calling beast suddenly went hysterical, it caused its companion to start sprinting along with it. The sudden change caught the man guard. Despite reacting quickly enough to dodge the direct impact, he was still hit by the cart that the wind-calling beast dragged along with it, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground.
The carts did not stop at all as the two wind-calling beasts pulled them along.
Cao Yan crept out from behind the tree. He jumped onto one of the carts and scooted off in a blink of an eye.
In this encounter, he had made use of his strength to avert the crisis, teach the opponent a lesson, and most importantly, he even took one of the carts along with him…
