Demon Pets’ Black Tech Nest - Chapter 14

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Rainbow Nation, where Magic Metropolis was situated, was in the midsummer period. When it was close to noon, the sun shone brightly, raising the temperature.

Cao Yan found a small restaurant and had his first official proper lunch ever since he arrived in this world.

When it was past 1 pm, he appeared on a street on the south-eastern side of Magic Metropolis.

Previously, when he went to the demon exhibition to steal Eggy, he had also come to this area. His parents had left him a little shop here.

On his last visit, the plump lady next door had told him about the original host’s plan of renting the shop. Someone had already expressed their interest, so she asked Cao Yan to meet them when he was free.

Cao Yan came over to meet the interested party.

He would naturally need capital for whatever his plans were next. However, the original host was just a poor boy without any savings. Finding money became the top priority now. Otherwise, it would be difficult for him to put his plans into motion.

“Auntie Xiafu,” Cao Yan called out to the plump lady as he entered her shop.

There were all kinds of family names in this world, like the common Chinese surnames and random surnames named after anything you saw. Some family clans with a long history might even have names that carried the family’s mysterious powers.

This plump neighbor, whom the original host knew, had a weird surname.

When Cao Yan saw her, he told her the purpose of his visit. The plump lady quickly helped him contact the interested party.

“…The location of your shop is not bad, but it’s a little small. It has its pros and cons. Quote me a price you find reasonable.” The man who came to check out the shop was in his forties. The moment he saw Cao Yan, he went straight to the point after some simple greetings. He seemed to be nervous, and even his voice was very soft when he spoke.

Cao Yan had already opened his little shop and was discussing the rent with the other party inside.

Cao Yan asked, instead of answering, “Are you only renting it? If I were to sell it, are you willing to take over the shop?”

“Sell?”

The middle-aged man was scanning the shop when he heard Cao Yan say that. He immediately turned around and said, “I wanted to rent this place to do some small business. Buying a shop suddenly would be way over my budget. I’d have to consider it before making a decision. Do you really want to sell this place?”

“I do have the intention, but I’ve yet to decide. You can look around first,” Cao Yan said softly.

When the plump lady, who was standing at the side, heard that Cao Yan wanted to sell the place, she tugged at his sleeve and said, “When your father was still around, he refused to sell this place despite the buyers lining outside. He said he had to leave it for you because you wouldn’t starve to death with this shop. Why do you want to sell it?”

The plump lady was still pretty concerned about the host body.

Cao Yan smiled and found a random reason to persuade the plump lady. He barely convinced her that he was not selling the place because of difficulties or any ill intentions.

The plump lady thought for a while. “If you really want to sell it, how much are you prepared to let it go for?”

“More than two million,” Cao Yan said.

He had done his homework on the market rate of the shops around the area before coming here. This place was not at the core of Magic Metropolis, so it would not be expensive. However, with the market rate of around forty thousand per square meter, Cao Yan was not asking for a lot.

For whatever Cao Yan was planning to do, just renting the shop wouldn’t be sufficient. With the fake system as his backing, he was confident to not make a loss. He eventually decided to sell the shop in exchange for some capital.

With the intention to sell the shop, the renting naturally was put on hold. The man asked for some time after looking around the place, and things came to a temporary pause.

When Cao Yan left, the plump lady casually asked the middle-aged man, “You appeared rather nervous, and your voice was so soft that I could barely hear you. What’s wrong?”

“Was it that obvious?” The middle-aged man was rather embarrassed. He explained, “Didn’t you notice that this poor neighbor boy of yours is not some simpleton? The badge he was wearing on his chest had the logo of a demon pet trainer. That’s a scary occupation that can call the wind and summon the rain. Aren’t you nervous in front of someone like that?”

The middle-aged man blinked. What he was trying to say was that not only was she fat, she seemed pretty big-hearted too.

“What?” the plump lady exclaimed.

Cao Yan was strolling around the town. He had a small notebook to jot down some of the important information and data.

In the evening, he returned back to his boat to spend the night.

The sun slowly set, and the harbor fell into the quiet night.

Cao Yan was surprised to discover two eggs inside the cabin upon his return. They were as big as ostrich eggs.

These… were brought back by Eggy.

Cao Yan had been walking around Magic Metropolis the entire day. On the other end of his spiritual sense, Eggy had been very quiet. Its actions showed that it had been doing well in the forest and had not met with any accidents.

Cao Yan could sense that Eggy had been improving steadily.

At this rate, Eggy might be able to evolve to the next stage in no time at all.

“The host is right in his thinking. The thing that sealed Eggy when you first saw it is called the stars amber, a very strong seal. According to the artificial brain’s analysis, Eggy’s powers had been suppressed to the minimum under the seal. It had no choice but to forgo its original life to preserve its soul. In the end, it reverted to its infant stage. On a certain level, it is currently regaining the power it once had; therefore, it would grow very quickly during the initial stages.”

The fake system suddenly appeared and explained Eggy’s rapid growth.

The two eggs in the cabin were Eggy’s gains from the forest. It transported them back to the boat in the morning and had already gone back to the forest since then.

Mm. Eggy was very busy.

“What kind of egg is this?” asked Cao Yan.

“The host has yet to use your chance to go into the spaceship for today. You can bring the eggs in with you and test out the species based on the genetics of the organism inside the egg,” the fake system said.

“Bring the eggs in”… What a way to phrase it…

Before Cao Yan could react, the fake system started operating. He felt off-balance once again as the light changed before his eyes. When the dizziness vanished, he was back in the spaceship with an egg in each hand.

Cao Yan was not that eager to find out the organism’s species. Instead, he asked, with high expectations of what he could exchange for with his points, “I have 80 mission points now. What can I exchange them for?”

“Please take a look.”

A screen appeared in front of Cao Yan, displaying a variety of pictures.

The item categories shown on the screen interface were the ones that Cao Yan could exchange for with his points. There was a picture for every category:

[Unique demon pets]

[Skills]

[Races of life from different dimensions]

[Tools and objects]

[Black technology]

There were even notes under every category. For example, for the unique demon pet category, the whereabouts of the demons and their homelands were written. Most of them were genetic embryos obtained either from spaceships cruising in the endless milky way or from a certain solar system or a certain planet’s civilization. Even the organism’s level and the number of points needed to bring it to life were also recorded.

There were so many to look at that Cao Yan was dazzled.

He even saw the origin of the skill book from his newbie mission reward. During a space excursion, the spaceship collected different kinds of mainstream methods to train demons from various civilizations. In the end, a precious skill book was born after including the situation in the Green Jungle. As Cao Yan practiced, he would see more and more benefits of the skill book.

Cao Yan looked at the items on the screen unhappily.

Although there was a lot on display, a [locked] tagged behind almost every category limited his choices.

He could only look at those items. With only 80 points, there was barely anything he could get. He would have to continue doing missions to make his mark.

“There’s still something you can exchange for 80 points,” the fake system reminded softly.
