Black Hunter - Chapter 1

Is it a blessing or a curse?

We were standing blankly, utterly unaware of our surroundings when someone ran out like Usain Bolt and picked up a large knife on the floor.

Without any hesitation, he rushed towards a hyena.

A hyena with a deep cut in its neck spewed blood and shook its head on the floor.

“What the hell is this!?”

Someone said with a nervous voice. Then, similar questions poured out like a shower.

There were no wild animals in Korea that could threaten humans. Wild boars occasionally come down from the mountain and cause a commotion.

That is why I didn’t think this was real. I saw hyenas flocking with their teeth bared. I thought I was dreaming.

The man who first moved towards the hyenas flocked in front of us killed one, and I didn’t feel how dangerous it was at first.

There were hyenas everywhere, biting people. There were so many screaming people asking for help; I thought my ears would pop.

My breathing accelerated, and I was sweating. Horror swallowed me up. My stomach twisted in knots.

I shouldn’t stand here like a fool! I need to move!

I moved my stiff legs and picked up a piece of wood. I used to play games, so I had an idea of what to do. However, weapons of the game are different from reality.

The ax was heavier than I expected. I lifted my sagging arms.

A hyena rushed towards me. I wielded the ax with embarrassment

and hit the hyena’s head.

. The ax was bored into its head.

The hyena fell

“Ugh!”

I only swung the ax once, but I can’t feel my shoulders, and my arms hurt. My muscles are not used to exerting so much force.

I dropped the ax, and it fell to the floor.

Then the hyena bit me so hard in my legs.

I screamed. I’ve never felt so much pain in my entire life.

“Aww!”

I screamed and moved my legs, but the hyena still didn’t let go of it. It was bitten and stretched.

My arm hurts, I don’t know if I’ll be able to swing the ax again, but the hyena is biting my leg, so my arm moved by itself.

I wielded the ax evilly.

“Let it go! Let go! “

The ax was long, so it didn’t fit my hands properly. The ax just touched the hyena’s ass.

“Wow!”

I lifted the ax with force and shook it.

The ax head pierced the hyena’s spine.

The hyena howled like a dog. I was able to distance myself from the hyena. I wielded the ax, and then I hit the hyena’s head.

I realized that lowering the ax was more destructive than swinging it. It was because of gravity.

From then on, I swung the ax vertically like when splitting firewood. The ax impaled the hyena’s skull.

Sometimes it gets so deep that I struggle to take it out. The hyena jumped up and bit my forearm, and then I trampled the beast’s back and almost pulled the ax.

Instead of screaming, a swear came out of my mouth this time.

I kicked the hyena’s stomach and pulled out the ax. Then I trampled its neck with my heels.

Ever since that time, my memories became blurred. I only thought about the fear of dying and the pain in my body. Ensnared by madness, I shook my ax without hesitation.

I was not an athlete. I have never trained my body properly.

I only avoided dying because of my adrenaline rush. But I know it won’t last long.

The arm holding the ax trembled. If a hyena rushes again right now, I have no choice but to be a helpless boy, good thing no one was aiming for me.

I looked around, panting like a dog running all day. There seemed to be about two hundred people fighting hyenas like me. However, nearly twice the number of people were running away.

I felt so bad for them.

That didn’t include the number of people hunted and eaten by hyenas. It was so terrible.

“Help me!”

“Help!”

People who were bitten screamed, and the wicked hyenas howled. I want to help, but my body is not moving. Holding an ax took out all my energy. I wanted to lie down and close my eyes.

The man, who was the first to fight the hyena earlier, struck the hyena who was biting an old man’s arm with a knife. Then he moved to kill another hyena.

He was fast and powerful. Hyenas, who bite people like dogs with rabies, fled when he comes near.

“He’s great.”

He fought first and killed many hyenas. He should have been tired unless he was a machine.

But he was still fighting. It seemed like he will fight until the very end.

I nicknamed him ‘Poison.’

Soon all hyenas were gone. That was because Poison showed his outstanding skills. Joyful crying was heard all over the place when we were finally safe. There were also a few people who were crying out hysterically.

Some people, mostly middle-aged ones wearing gilt-glasses, went out to gather and treat the injured. I wanted to comfort those who were injured, but it wasn’t easy to calm down because of the situation.

“Who the hell are you? Why are we here? What are those hyenas? How do we fight them?”

I screamed and approached Poison. Being up close, I realized he was unexpectedly tall. I thought he wasn’t tall because of his small head.

The old man that he saved had thick and dark eyebrows as if painted with a brush filled with ink.

He opened his mouth to thank him.

“Thank you.”

He didn’t even care.

“Move.”

A cold hand pushed the old man out of the way and picked up the hyena’s body. The old man was embarrassed.

There is a saying that you can’t spit on a smile, but I guess that depends on the person. The old man was close to tears, and then he left.

Poison put the hyena’s body on his cracked shoulder and walked away. I followed him like a little child following his mother.

When he suddenly stopped and looked back, I was so startled that I swallowed my saliva.

“You fought those?”

Poison asked, pointing to where I fought the hyenas. Seven hyenas were lying there.

“I thought I killed many hyenas, but now I realized there were only a few.”

“Will you give it to me?”

Hyenas were piled up to form a small mountain where he fought.

There are so many hyenas, why would I need them?

I didn’t understand.

It seems tedious to burn them up.

“If you like them so much.”

I was just trying to give my permission, but I spoke impatiently. Poison walked away, then looked back at me coldly.

“Don’t bother me.”
