A False Confession - Chapter 1

Chamber

01. Zagoro Hillan

The sky seems as if it was going to rain soon. The sky is overcast with dark clouds and the air is very humid. This time, it seems like it would rain for a long time.

“Why don’t you stop looking at the sky and start putting away the blankets?”

“…Lili, do you think that customer will come today, too?”

“Doesn’t he always come when it rains? By the way, when are you going to refer to him by his title?”

There is a short pause before Lili starts nagging again. I’m telling you; Lili cannot handle a joke well.

I chuckle and Lili shrugs her shoulders. In the meantime, she was busy tidying up the clothes hanging on the clothesline.

“But he is a customer. He funds our temple, allowing us to have enough money to feed the people in the temple.”

“…you, if you say that in front of the High Priest, he will give you an earful again.”

Lili shakes her head at me. I have already said this before, and the High Priest caught me and gave me an earful.

I look up at the sky again and start taking down the blankets and piling them up in the laundry basket that is on the ground.

My body continued the simple, repetitive action of collecting the laundry and putting them in the basket. My head is already full of worries about the guest who will arrive at the temple in a few hours. If I make another mistake today, I might really die.

Although I have died once, I don’t want to die again.

There is nothing special about me besides the fact that I came here with the memory of my previous life. You know what I’m talking about. A young girl would cross over to another world as the villainess of the novel or end up as an insignificant aristocrat of a noble family.

Now, some of them may choose to live quietly and avoid their death flags, while others would try and win over the second male lead. But I choose neither of the two options.

I crossed over to this world because I died on my way back home after doing my homework at the library. I was as tired as a zombie when I turned the corner to a dark alley and crashed into a car that didn’t slow down.

This all happened because of that stupid homework! Even if I die, life continues. No matter how much homework I completed, there will always be more. If I die, then the culprit is all the homework I’ve received.

Of course, the car that was speeding in the dark alley was also at fault. But the main reason I remained at the library until dark was because of my homework. Homework is the source of all evil. It forced me to stay up late every day and endangered not only my health but my life as well.

Anyway, when I first opened my eyes for the first time here, I was suffering from hunger. My clothes were tattered, and I didn’t have a guardian around me. I didn’t even have a home. That’s right, I possessed the body of a nameless orphan who was about to die.

Just like all the romantic fictions I’ve read whenever I was free from doing homework, I crossed through dimensions. But I was not impressed because I was in a very poor physical condition.
