A Different Husband Every Day - Chapter 12

As the soup thickened and the glutinous rice puffed up, Li Weiyin added the marinated fish, and let it sit on low heat for 5 minutes, before she added the ginger and celery. After another 5 minutes, it was ready to be removed from the pot.

But before she did, she stirred in some salt to taste and prepared some green onions to be sprinkled on top when serving.

Li Weiyin was planning to place the congee into a thermos container so she could take it to the hospital. The only thing she didn’t add in yet, was the green onions because it spoiled easily and could ruin both the presentation and taste.

After working hard for more than an hour, a bowl of delicate, thick, sticky, and soft celery and fish congee was completed.

This was already a quick version. If she had some time to spare, she would have simmered it slowly in a stone pot to make the fish soup and rice grains fuse into an even smoother and fragrant version.

By the time Li Weiyin rushed to the hospital, Li Jinzong had awoken. At the door, she could already hear Fang Meixian complaining, “Jinzhong, you’re finally awake. If you slept for any longer, Xinxin and I would have been stressed to death. Look at Xinxin’s face; Li Weiyin did it. How could she be so ruthless? She even yelled at me loudly and made rude remarks. She has no respect for me whatsoever…”

“Daddy, have some water. I already ordered some food. You can eat soon,” Li Weixin’s caring voice followed. “Don’t be angry. It was my fault for not keeping an eye on your drip. Weiyin only hit me because she was concerned about you…”

“She was not concerned about your father. She was just angry at me. Angry that I arranged a marriage with the Xu Family and angry because she didn’t want to make any sacrifices for the family. That’s why she turned on us,” Fang Meixian and Li Weixin spoke one after the other. “Jinzhong, you were even considering bringing her to the company and slowly allowing her to take over. Look at how she is now. If she becomes the head of the household, where will Xinxin and I stand?”

“Yinyin is a filial child…” Li Jinzong’s said in a weak and raspy voice.

Li Weiyin’s eyes became watery when she heard this. Although she still didn’t compare to Li Weixin in her father’s heart, he wasn’t as biased as Fang Meixian.

She blinked her eyes a few times, holding back her tears, and pushed open the door.

When Fang Meixian and Li Weixin saw her, they did not look pleased. Fang Meixian expressed it clearly, while Li Weixin lowered her head.

“Dad, I prepared some congee for you. Have some,” Li Weiyin pretended that she didn’t hear a thing as she ignored Fang Meixian and Li Weixin, walked over to her father with her thermos container and poured the congee out.

Li Weixin quickly raised the bed like a good daughter and helped Li Jinzong sit up.

“It smells good. It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten Yinyin’s food.” As the congee poured out, a fragrant smell spread across the room causing Li Jinzong to subconsciously smile.

Fang Meixian couldn’t help but take a couple of glances as well. Although she often looked down at her daughter’s chopping and banging in the kitchen, she couldn’t resist the temptation of food.

Unfortunately, Li Weiyin only cooked a small portion; just enough for one bowl. This made Fang Meixian even more upset, “Why did you cook so little?”

“If I cooked more, it would have taken more time. I was worried that Dad would be hungry when he woke up,” Li Weiyin replied calmly as she fed Li Jinzong.

Fang Meixian was flustered by this response, “Didn’t you consider that your sister and I would be hungry too?”

“When I came earlier, weren’t you and Weixin eating?” Li Weiyin asked as she glanced at her mother. “I haven’t eaten anything since this morning and I’m not hungry. How could you be hungry?”

Fang Meixian was rendered speechless.

Li Jinzhong patted Li Weiyin on the hand and brought the argument to peace, “Didn’t you say that Xinxin ordered some food and it was arriving soon? I’m sure you can wait a little longer.”
